My wife and I tried this place on a whim last week...having seen it but knowing nothing about it. We are discerning and well travled, eating at the best restaurants in the country. Food, for us, is a passion - it's not unusual for us to drive to Charleston just to have a bite. That being said, Pampas has become our favorite destination for a relaxed yet very nice atmospheere and the best steak anywhere - Bones and Chops notwithstanding. While the service and atmosphere were impeccable, the food really delivers. My wife started with the fried lobster tail and I with the bisque, both were outstanding. She had the bone in ribeye and I the twin bone in filets (24 ounces of heaven)...we finished by sharing the bananas foster. Start to finish a perfect evening!
My husband and I went here on a Sunday evening and I'm positive the food was from the prior day. The bread was so hard we could've pounded nails with it. Our steaks were as tough as eating my own shoes. The only redeeming thing we had was the empanada appetizer. We had wanted to try this place for months. What a disappointment. Totally not worth the money.
I have been dining at Pampas since they opened. I enjoyed when they had the Tango dancers and miss them not being there on Friday nights. But the Restaurant is still Class and Quality. I usually dine alone and the wait staff has always made me comfortable stopping and checking with me and not making me feel alone. On one occassion I was dining with a group of friends and a couple sitting nearby had a child that started making it a little uncomfortable for the other diners and they did not pay any attention to the child, the staff stepped in and comforted the child and were able to quiet the child without causing any ugly scenes or bringing any attention to them. The food, Well what can I say it is the best. I have never had a bad expeience with the food either. I am always recommending Pampa's to friends and clients.
