Carolina Bar-B-Que, New Ellenton

I hate to say this, but this place isn't what it used to be. I grew up eating there, but at some point over the last few years things have gone downhill bigtime. The BBQ has WAY more gristle in it than it used to, is dry, and otherwise not tasty. The potato is salad is plain bad, like it's missing something. The hash is one thing that hasn't changed. I now live in the Columbia area, and there are more than a few places up here that are much better than Carolina BBQ. It would be nowhere in my top five at this point. In Columbia, Doc's is hands-down the best I have eaten. Hudson's in Lexington would be next followed by Granny's and Palmetto Pigs. Of course, there is also Maurice's. I would take ANY of these over Carolina these days. And again, it saddens me to say it because I remember it as the be-all, end-all back in the day. But it's just not so anymore. I understand they have been under new management for the last few years. If the new management reads this, please return Carolina to it's former glory!

Went there to meet my husband for lunch, and I didn't see anything special about it. After reading all the 4 stars from websites, I expected a lot more. I thought the pork tasted wonderful, but without any of the sauces. Plus the sweet tea was great, but that's the only thing I liked there. The hash was spicy. Not on my favorite places to eat BBQ.

Carolina BBQ, is really good. Great BBQ,Good prices, Good people. Hard to beat this combo.

I would rate the food with the price a 5, but the days you are open a 2.

This is the first review I have ever left but I just had to let people know how good this barbaque is. Ive been eating at this resturant probably close to 20 years. When people say its the best, its true. It really is the best and I have yet to eat barbaque anywhere else in years. I wish the family owned business would consider franchise opportunities. I promise someone would take them up on that offer. Ive been thinking about that for years b/c Im scared that they will close.lol If your ever in town you should def take the drive and try the food, its the best in the world.

The hash!! Is a treasure not approached anywhere. The sides are not epicurean but how folks make them at home. The pulled pork is finely chopped moist and does not need a sauce, vinegar/smoke make it a classic. I lived in NE (New Ellenton) when the place opened in 1969 in an abandoned storefront. Lived all over the US and some foreign countries. If I had to make a choice about a last meal, this would be the place (don’t tell my mother)

I've been eating this barbeque my whole life. My mom (Iris Fulmer) grew up in New Ellenton. Throughout my childhood, and even now, she will drive from Atlanta to New Ellenton to get this stuff. It's the best ever and has ruined me for tomato based barbeque sauce. Can't get the golden stuff around here :( When Mom says she's headed to SC, my sisters and I circle up with cash in hand to request a home delivery!

I have been all over this country, never have I come across a better plate of bar-b-que. The hash is unique to the south so it is highly recommended you try this also. Spend the time if you can to eat inside, a few dollars extra gets you an all you can eat buffet. If anyone can find a better plate of BBQ anywhere in this country, let me know.

Carolina Bar-B-Que is my all-time favorite! I love the tea, hash and rice, cole slaw, all of it. You must eat there.
