The only reason that this restaurant gets a good rating is because all the toursits don't know how to get to the good Japanese steakhouses! The food is mediocre at best, and if you're a vegetarian, be prepared for bland and blander. This was the least variety I've ever received at this type of restaurant. Also, our chef barely interacted with us, and he didn't even do the ONION VOLCANO! I highly reccommend driving a little farther north or south on 17 bypass to find a good place.
My husband and I visited Yamato on Thursday, August 18th. We were very disappointed with our experience both with the cook and the check out process.
We had tickets for a 9:00 show just down the street and figured we had plenty of time to eat and make it to the show. We have eaten at many other Japanese Steakhouses in the past, and anticipated the same enjoyable experience.
Our cook used some of the same entertaining demonstrations with onions and eggs that we have experienced in numerous other Japanese Steakhouses we have visited in the past. At one point however, a fire started very close to him. He then made a comment about lighting his
My family and another visit mb for vacation and we always visit Yamato on Tuesday evening. Then after a fantastic and fun meal we watch the fireworks. The food is great. The chefs are really talented, the kids big and small have a blast. If we come down there for another 20 years I know where we will be dining on Tuesday night
The sushi and hibachi is good. Getting in to eat most times is a let down. I've eaten enough around at the other Japanese Steak houses to say that prices are higher and service is rushed trying to get the crowds in.
We love to eat out at Yamato. The food is always great and the chef usually has a great sense for cooking and entertainment. We used to eat at the Yamato in Columbia, SC and loved it. When we moved to Myrtle Beach we tried Yamato here and have not been disappointed. Large portions and a great way to entertain family and friends.
I've been to Yamato twice. It's one of kind experience. The first time we went was awesome and unforgettable! The second time we went it was only decent and made us decide that we probably won't ever go back. The service is exceptional and the chef is always fun, but this time our waitress was unfriendly and the chef got the orders mixed up a lot. My boyfriend ordered Filet Mignon and two other people ordered the same thing. The chef gave Filet to the other two people who ordered it then started cooking my boyfriend's filet. Once he was finished cooking it, he gave someone else the filet and my boyfriend only got a little of it. Then my boyfriend also ordered scallops and he only got four our of thirty and only one other person ordered scallops! Also, part of the experience is the chef to be fun and do neat things. Our chef didn't do anything fun. He cooked and that was it! It's a neat experience, but just realize that the portions aren't very big!
