Well, this will be our last year here. For one, they consider themselves a Christian organization but you would never know it dealing with the reservations desk. They say they are not allowed to tell you what site you are on, only the block. Well I can understand that they may not be able to guaranty a site but they are certainly assigning a site at the time of reservation so what is the big secret? Also, I guess the $25 amenity fee last year wasn t quite enough so now it is $5 per DAY amenity fee, which meant 50 bucks for our 10 day stay during bike week. They don t even have all of the amenities available this early in the season. Total money grab! Oh and don t dare bring your own golf cart or scooter. NOT allowed, you must rent from them at a cool $30 or more per DAY.
my family and i have camped at ocean lakes since 1984,we wanted to try other camgrounds so we tried apache and pirateland, they were ok.i made a reservation at lakewood back in early april, after making the reservation a few days later i checked my bank account online and saw were they had tacked on an additional $25.00,i called them back and they informed me that it is an administration fee, after asking if i could cancel my reservation they told me yes but it was going to cost me a $25.00 cancelation fee, choosing not to throw the money away we camped there may 18 thru 22 and we enjoyed the campground with the exception of there golf cart rules and there arrogant admin fees, there own employees dont agree with the fee either, gas prices through the roof and a bad economy and they want more.LAKEWOOD CHRISTIAN FAMILY CAMPING RESORT/I CANT WAIT TO GET BACK TO OCEAN LAKES CAMP GROUND.
Me and my husband had been camping at lakewood for many years. We love it more than any other campground. But because of the extra $25 dollars they are tacking on at the end of the payment we will not be back. With gas prices and the slow economy, people want to go to the beach camping because it is afordable. We have a lot of friends who love lakewood who said they will not be back either.
This campground was poor to awful. Thousands of ants in the campsites. Rented golf cart to get around only to find out that you can't use it at night to go to the beach to walk or to go to the bath houses. Security guards questioned us walking to the beach at 11:15 p.m. at night. Told us you are not allowed to be out of your camper after 11:00 p.m. Changed the policies three times in one week without making anyone aware of them. Only found two employees that were nice, the rest looked down on you or governed you. Need more pools, with 1100 campsites with a max of 7 people per site they only have 2 pools. They were so packed you could barely get in them. Have lifeguards on duty (eating throughout the day), with signs that say no lifeguard on duty.....apparently to save them the liability. Horrible campground all around, I would look at the others available.
Great place, friendly fellow campers, friendly and attentive staff. We stayed in one of the villas (#2908). Was very quiet, clean and fully furnished with a view of the lake and ocean. Am planning on going back ASAP.
First time staying at Lakewood and it was a most enjoyable experience. Our original site had a couple of trees taking about 33% of the space we needed to set our camp like we wanted it. After a call to the front desk, we moved 2 spaces away to a great site. Since we were there the week most kids were getting ready to go back to school, Aug 17-24, there were LOTS of open spaces and NO kids with golf carts. People at the front desk also helped in locating a emergency Vet when one of our Shelties went into seizures.
Lots to do at the campground, even if you don't take in the Christian factor. However, everyone associated with the staff were helpful and congenial. A real plus given they were substantially less in price than Pirateland, right next door.
Are we going back? You betcha. Hopefully same time next year.
This was our first visit to the campground. The campground had us in to sing for the Friday night Gospel sing. We were so blessed to have met the chaplin and his lovely wife. Thy were so gracious to let us stay in their home and what a blessing they are. We just wish we had more time to spend there to get to know them. Our ministry will be forever grateful for the love and support that they shown during our stay. We look forward to being there again and will pray for the campground and its staff.
We have stayed at Lakewood Campground several times and we have always enjoyed the stay. They are nice, friendly, clean. Right on the ocean and we liked the fact that it was a Christian Campground.
Last year during our visit, there were so many kidsdriving the golf carts, speeding, racing one another. They had no parental supervision and the campground wasn't doing anything about it. We did not feel safe with these kids on the road. Several were not even close to being of age to be driving.
This was a big factor in where we stayed in 2006 and since we have 2 toddlers with us, we felt we should try another campground.
