Gennaro's Italian Ristorante, Charleston

It is obvious to me that the people that wrote reviews about this place have never tasted REAL Italian food. My wife and I ate there just last night and after a few bites I knew I would not be able to eat the meal. I will say that the bread was good but that was about it. The service was slow even though the place realatively empty. I had the Penne with sausage and red sauce. The red sauce was acidy and tasted as if it was mainly tomato paste, the sausage tasted like it had been soaked in gasoline overnight and cooked. All in all it was terrible. My wife had the Alfredo with chicken and it was just OK but nothing special. I have eaten around the world and hail from Illinois where good Italian sausage can easily be found. Compared to the quality of the sausage in Chicago and New York on a scale of 1 to 10 Genarro's ranks a 1. I went there with great expectations and left with an upset stomach.

I've known the Gennaros since before the first restaurant on 17 south. Always a class act, many an anniversary dinner and other special occasions I've always enjoyed everything.

Best seafood scampi dish anywhere. Shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels. awesome! Michael, Robert, and Linda really do a fantastic job. REAL Italian food served there. Not the warmed over fare some of these italian national chain restaurants try to sell.

I've been going to Gennaro's for years, and they have some of the best (and most authentic) Italian food in the area. It's a nice, upscale atmosphere that makes for a really nice evening out, and the Thursday night jazz is always a treat. The owner often sits in with the band, and frequently young players from the area will sit in as well. Overall, a solid choice for a nice night out.

Our family recently vacationed in Isle of Palms. We had pre-selected this restaurant based on the reviews. Wow...Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. we can not say enough about the food. The appetizers, entrees and desert were fabulous!! This will be on the top of our list for dinner the next time we are in SC.

I went to Charleston, South Carolina to see my family over the Christmas holidays from out of town but on Thursday December 20, 2007 about at 8:30 P.M. me and my sister ate at Gennaro's Italian Ristorante and it was the most excellent and one of the best I ever ate at. I made a point to go on a Thursday night when the jazz essembled band performs. We had live entertainment and we really liked to jazz essembled band. But the food was just out of this world. I had spaghetti with italian sausage, mushrooms, and meatballs and me and my sister split a new york style pizza and all that was just the best and the salad was also wonderful. This gets a five star rating I will defently go back again.

In an era of bad restaurants and poor service this small family owned .. can teach a few lessonss. fantastic food great service friendly staff. truely a fine dining experience.........

THE STAFF IS PERFECT, FOOD UNGODLY, AND HARDLY EVER A WAIT TIME. WHATS GOING ON HERE? THIS IS A MUST IF YOU ARE IN THE CHAS/SUMMERVILLE AREA. PS-HEY GUYS HOW ABOUT BRINGING THOSE CRAB CALZONES BACK.

I just ate there last night. Absolutely fabulous food! If you're reading this review, trust me, you will NOT regret eating at this establishment. Oh and I had a glass of white zinfandel and it was the best I've had. Ten stars out of five!!!
