Very good food and service. Love the atmosphere. Live music, seafood and the beach is always a great combination. Isle of Palms is my favorite beach spot. With Coconut Joes and Morgan Creek Grill I could live here!! Love Coconut joes oysters!!! Perfectly steamed!! Despite the ney sayers you have got to give this place a try. If you dont like to wait try going during any season other than the summer....or come early. Its very much worth the wait tho. and with the plastic tarp you can eat with a beach view without your food getting cold.
This place is terrible. Don't eat here. It is over priced, the service is poor and the food is terrible. Expect your meal to be cold, under or over cooked, old, dirty and ill prepared. The servers themselves are as rotten as the food. They argue with the customers, yell at them, and in general are rude. The best part is, if you send something back because it is rotten, they are probably going to still charge you for it. All of the food tastes like something you could buy at the grocery store. Why would I pay $10-$15 at this place when I could buy it at the grocery store for $3.00 (and I could probably make it better). Don't waste your time or your money on this place.
If I could give it a zero, I would. The crab dip was awful. My husband had the fish taco, which he said tasted like dirt. My mahi sandwich wasn't even as good as a filet-O-fish from McDonald's. The bathrooms were filthy & the entire inside of the restaurant smelt like urine. The only positive was the beautiful view or the ocean.
We went to Coconut Joes on Saturday night for a few drinks and dinner. The top side deck view was amazing, and their signature drinks were very tasty. We had a rather large group (15) so we understood when we were told we would have to wait approximately 45 minutes for a table. An hour and 1/2 later we were finally seated inside (we were told food was not allowed to be served upstairs on the deck where we had been waiting)I would like to say it was worth the wait, but it certainly wasn't. The server was rude and very unattentive; it took 15 minutes to get her attention to get a drink refill, and then another 15 to get the actual drink! After our food orders were placed (she obviously had a hard time understanding how the check should be split) and the food finally arrived an hour later, several orders were cold, and two were completely wrong. Evidently, at Coconut Joes, the customer takes responsibilty for incorrect orders, they were unwilling to remove the item from the bill (we did get a 50% discount on one entree) in their defense, they offered to replace the one order that was COMPLETELY wrong, but we were not willing (we were famished by this time) to take the chance on another hour wait for the correct order. The food was average at best - but decent size servings. Keep an eye on your check at the end of your meal, they automatically add in a 15% gratuity - which, with the service (or lack thereof) we received, was not deserved.
I was really excited about going here for dinner one Friday night. I was really impressed with the location. It was great sitting with a beer and enjoying the beachview, which made waiting the 45 minutes for a table go by really fast. Once we got our food, I was completely let down. It really wasn't very good and the service was average (waiter kept forgetting stuff we asked for). Overall, I'd go back for drinks and the beachview, but nothing else.
I've spent my summers on the Isle since 1960. I've seen it grow, blow away and grow again. I travel down to the Isle at least 4 times a year and recently found another jewel on the Isle. Coconut Joe's serves breakfast. Yeah!
I wasn't to keen on the breakfast selections but quickly found out I could order what I wanted. Three eggs over medium, great bacon, sour dough toast and the most delectable fried grit cake smothered in sausage gravy. Top that off with a couple of Bloody Mary's and WOW!
I can now stay on the Isle my entire visit. Breakfast at Joe's, lunch at the Banana, afternoon beers at Malcomb's (Jammer), evening meal at the Parrot and dance the night away back at Joe's. See you again in August. DL Orr
