Rude staff seems the norm in Charleston. I had always heard the food was good here, so we tried it early on a Friday but it was still busy and very noisy-very hard to hear our table conversation. I said my name and time of reservation to the staff behind the bar, but they ignored me, and just joked among themselves--later hostess did come out and seat us. Our food took an hour and twenty minutes to be served. A couple sat across from us and had wine, apps, and dinner, paid and left before we go our meals. The waitress joked that she had turned in our order at the same time as theirs though they arrived much later. While waiting on the restroom, I saw an older man (through a serving window/ledge) making salads and not washing his hands as he touched many items in the kitchen and made various salads. No proper sanitary technique at all was observed. The steak was tough and made my son nauseous, the fish dishes were actually tasty when they came but maybe we were grateful for any food at that point. Don t make the drive if in town- if at Kiawah, dine on the island. It seems Charleston has surfaced as having the rudest restaurant staff worldwide.
Average. For the prices, I expect a service staff and not a waitress. While elements of dinner were good, others were mediocre. One order of sesame-encrusted tuna (ordered medium) was so rare that I'm sure I've seen fish sicker than that get better. Clearly an example of a restaurant in the middle of nowhere that thinks they're great, having hired locals to wait tables without any experience in a truly good restaurant. I won't go back.
