We lived in the Charleston Area when I visited this restaurant. We had frequented many seafood places (bubba Gumps, etc) This place was the only place we hadn't been.
Well let me tell you, the food was awful. Nothing special whatsoever. They bring your food out on paper plates! Come on, and we are paying a pretty penny to eat there. Just not impressed at all, I can't believe this place is rated number one!
I guess we should have visited this seafood restaurante FIRST, instead of the last, because we may have not been as disappointed.
i finally made it there after hearing your advertisements for several years, but will never go again. the food was terrible . the quality and quanity was extremely poor. the crab balls were barely cooked the buckets of seafood had poor quanity and the shrimp in the buckets were terrible. the management offered no solutions to our complaints except for that is the proper portions WEll
HOW ABOUT THAT .. will make sure I tell every one I know NOT TO GO THERE.
Happened on this place during the late afternoon with aching feet and parched throats. We also happened to have two small dogs. The two tables that opened onto the street looked most inviting. We entered to ask if the dogs would be welcome and were told that the kitchen was closed so the crew could get a break from a very busy Memorial Day Sunday but if beverages and a seat was all we required then the dogs would be welcome too.
Our server went out of her way to make us feel welcome. And even though it was also her break time she returned frequently to check on us. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious.
We returned the next evening for a meal together with our dogs and children and got the same table with a different server. He was friendly, funny and attentive. There was a goof up with the order but the response was speedy.
The food was honest and properly prepared. Nothing we had was canned or frozen which in this day and age is amazing.
Given the variety of styles and choice available in Charleston I was pleased that I found a restaurant that fit my needs so well.
Really liked the atmosphere. Ryan, at the bar, had some good suggestions of sites to see and things to do. Such a great personality too. Our waiter that night, Collin, really paid attention to detail, and we never had to ask for refills on drinks, he was right on the money as far as suggestions for dinner. The she-Crab soup was the best I have ever eaten. This will be on our short list of places to eat in Charleston.
I love sitting outside to people watch while I eat with friends and family. On the weekends I usually take my daughter and niece and call it girls night out spend the day at the beach and then go to the crabshack for dinner.
I frequently visit Charleston and had never dinned at the East Bay Crab Shack before, until one of my friends took me there recently. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere in the establishment. It was laid back and chill, there was also live music playing in the dinning room. It is the type of atmosphere that I really enjoy. We took our seats at the bar and began looking at the menu. I was pleased to find a great selection of sea food and other verities. We decided to get a couple of appetizers and an entree, the stacked grouper. The food was everything I was expecting and more. The bar tender, Catlin, was very attentive to our needs. My total experience there was great. I will definitely revisit often.
