Jestine's Kitchen

Description

Come to Jestine's for classic southern comfort food. This restaurant has been featured on Rachel Ray's $40 A Day show, and not surprisingly, the food is excellent, with large portions but small prices. Entrees range from about 8-15 dollars, and each patron starts their meal with a bowl of complimentary cucumber pickles. Must-try dishes include the fried chicken, corn fritters, shrimp and grits, okra, fried green tomatoes, and the cornbread, which comes with pads of butter drizzled with honey. They don't take reservations, so during busy times a line forms outside the restaurant. However, the wait is worth it.

Absolutley Down Home solid Southern Home Cookin' at its best! Three of us happened upon this quaint place and ordered three different items-pot roast-OMG! Juicy and broke apart with a fork. Pecan Encrusted flounder-yummy! Pecan encrusted chicken-Moist!!! Cukes on the table before were the best ever! Too full for dessert-will defintely save room the next time-waitress was so nice! The grits? THE BEST in AMERICA! Will go to Charleston just to eat there for sure!!!

This Charleston classic still has the best fried okra I ever had. Their claim to fame is the fried chicken but I prefer the fish. The tea is half and half and very good. They staff is nice and the place is pretty much always packed. There really nothing I don't like about the place except for the lines.

I visited the restaurant with my brother in June. The food was great. I loved the fried green tomatoes and the dipping sauce. The fried chicken was the best I ever tried, it was crisp, but, not greasy and spiced just right. i had coconut cream pie for dessert, and it was delightful as well. I would definitely eat there again.

Jestines is probably in the top 10 visited by tourists. It is good. Mostly fried southern food. Plain, nothing fancy. Get there early because the line wraps around the corner.

Visited in July 2010, my family and I loved it. Everthing was delicious. We went back twice. Their Coca Cola Cake was to die for. Their service was also very good. We would go back again!!!

We went there today for lunch and was disappointed. The food really had no flavor. I ordered the special of the day, Sausage Gumbo which could have come out from a can. The mac n cheese was the biggest disappointment again no real flavor, we had 3 children in our party and they didn't eat much of it. The fried green tomatoes again, no seasoning. I can understand making your food appeasing to all different types of palates but this place just didn't cut the mustard. I wanted to like this place, but it's a tourist trap living off it's hype.

Average at best. Green Fried Tomatos were limp and soggy. Fried chicken was good. Mac and cheese had little cheese. Better fries at Mickey D's. Fried Okra was OK. Definitely a tourist trap, try to avoid this one.

Jestine's Kitchen is a great place for the taste of southern cooking. I have eaten here a few times and have never had a bad meal. I love the catfish. Also try the fried chicken, fried okra, pecan pie, Coke cola cake. The staff is great and friendly. I really can't think of anything bad about the place, maybe the line to get in, but just get there early. It is worth the wait.
