Great meal -- fresh local oysters and the tableside Caesar preparation was a nice touch; swanky, sophisticated setting; service that is gracious without being cloying (even on a busy Friday night). A highlight of our visit to Charleston.

I would actually rate them a 3-1/2 stars. The ambience was very nice with the decor and subtle changing lights. Service started off well, then was VERY slow. I felt bad for leaving 15% on a $100+ bill. But for that price tag, service should have been impeccable! I've had better service at TGIFridays. I was looking forward to the food because my online preview of the menu was mouth-watering, but I was a bit disappointed. The food was just good, I wasn't wow-ed like I hoped to be.

Really nice place. Love the wine wall. Food was good. Steak Diane is good. service is great. Very eclectic/ urban decor. Like the bar area above dinning room. Only went there once.

Probably my #1 recommendation to Charleston visitors. A great take on refined, or dare I say 'haute', low country cooking. Luckily the food is right at that one-Michelin star level where a food snob will love it, but a food philistine will too. The decor is more L.A. than Charleston, but when the food is this good, who cares?

Yummy - economy has made it easy to get in
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/8/08
Had previously tried to get weekend evening reservations a few days in advance on three occasions, but nothing was available. This past weekend, we were downtown and decided to call up and try again (same night) and to our shock, they had plenty of openings. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The owner of Cypress also owns the famous Magnolia and Blossoms. We have not eaten at Magnolia, but two of us had been to Blossoms before and much preferred Cypress. Cypress has their standard menu (classics) and their seasonal menu. We had raw oysters, with rare Ahi cubes topped with wasabi glaze. The butternut squash soup was outstanding as was the banana cream pie and molten chocolate cake. Main courses were all devoured, with little talk and no complaints. We expected a delicious mean and were not disappointed. The decor was upscale, I recommend a sports jacket, but it is certainly not required. The ceiling lights act as mood lighting and gradually change colors. They have a well-stocked wine cooler. Definitely will go back.

Another amazing Charleston restaurant! Meal was incredible. The mouse lollipops were a fun end to the evening. Great selection of wine and mixed drinks. Dcor reminded me of an upscale LA restaurant. Reservations are very important on prime nights! One of my top three restaurants when visiting the area.

Unique Restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/08
Cypress Restaurant is located right in the center of the Historic District on East Bay Street. The atmosphere of the restaurant is super chic and trendy. They have a 3 story glass wine bar that is really is eye catching. We always order the steak Diane which is more than enough and get dessert to go!

The whole experience is worth the visit. Take time to at least visit the bar on the upper level. Enjoy the lighting and the outstanding service.

The restaurant is very inviting with nice ambience. The wasabi tuna was excellent. Service was attentive, yet the food was VERY slow. Dining time for 3 people was over 2 hours.
