I would actually rate them a 3-1/2 stars. The ambience was very nice with the decor and subtle changing lights. Service started off well, then was VERY slow. I felt bad for leaving 15% on a $100+ bill. But for that price tag, service should have been impeccable! I've had better service at TGIFridays. I was looking forward to the food because my online preview of the menu was mouth-watering, but I was a bit disappointed. The food was just good, I wasn't wow-ed like I hoped to be.

The restaurant is very inviting with nice ambience. The wasabi tuna was excellent. Service was attentive, yet the food was VERY slow. Dining time for 3 people was over 2 hours.

Where we eat every trip to Charleston
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/07
Atmoshphere is great. Very cool bar to have a martini before dinner and after. Excellent wine list. Can be loud at times, but the meals have been awesome. I love the oysters with the tuna and the Beef Oscar. I have been there about 10 times and only had one time where one meal came out late. I have eaten at Hyman's, Magnolia's, Crab Shack, Carolina's, Tommy Condons, A.W. Shucks, Grill 225, etc. And we like Cypress the best. Yes, the cost is high, but not any less of a value compared to others we have been. Oh, and stay at the French Quarter Inn or the Market Place Pavilion and you have access to all the great sites and restaurants in the Historic District.

Amazing Food!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/3/06
Great restaurant but a little pricey. Everything we ordered was delicious. Must have Lobster Bisque and Tuna Entree (by far the best thing on the menu). Overall, well worth the $$.

DO NOT eat here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/5/06
we visited Cypress at the end of May. It was the worst meal we had in Charleston. The appetizers, which we ordered 4 of them, were all greasy and resembled fast food. The service was very slow! It was a huge disappointment. The dining room was very noisy and to get 4 appetizers and 1 entree were ordered took over 1 hour and 15 minutes. We learned about this restaurant on a reccomendation from the hostess at the peninsula grill.(their sister restaurant). We were so mad about this lousy reccommendation that we cancelled our reservation to the peninsula grill. Our best meals we had in Charleston were at 82 queen, tommy condons and the see-wee restaurant juts outside of town. I am an avid traveler and do have to say. Charleston restaurant prices are very high for what you get, but it makes you feel worst when you pay alot and the quality just isn t there!

Eats a yum yum

Elegence at a price. If you like wine , 5000 to choose from on a 2 story wall case. Steaks that require no chewing. Same for the water.
