High Cotton Maverick Bar & Grill
Description
High Cotton, like the phrase, is first class, high spirited, livin' large. Its mahogany woodwork, thick old brick walls, ancient heart pine floors and high ceilings evoke feelings of warmth and well being. The banquettes and ceiling fans conjure images of Hemingway, Bogart, Gable and Tracey. It's truly a place to talk, about faster horses, older whiskey and fortunes made and lost. The food is straightforward, virile and robust. Red meat, game, fresh fish. Familiar, irrestible desserts. This is the top of the food chain in quality and preparation. You'll find this place has a soul as old as a lowcountry oak.
Southern charm in a flash. Walk in n' you're there! Delightful live jazz for Sunday brunch. Shrimp n' cheese grits were simply to moan over. Has a simple, but nice kids' menu. Staff very attentive. Corn bread was perfect and warm. Don't miss the BEST bourbon pecan pie w/ ice cream I've ever eaten! Definite yearn to return!
We enjoyed dinner with three other couples, and everyone enjoyed the meal, excellent ambience, quality service, and live but not intrusive jazz. We'll definitely visit again on our next trip to Charleston.
We go there as often as we can for Sunday Brunch. The fod is wonderful and we are always treated very well. The staff is professional, personable and attentive. If in doubt about what to order the daily special, you cannot lose! Live jazz on Sunday mornings too...
This was a fantastic experience. I sampled crabcakes ALL over Charleston while there, and these were phenomenal. The chef absolutely knows what he/she is doing. The combinations of flavors in this dish were OUTSTANDING. Really cool atmosphere, too.
