I have been to the Grille on more than one occasions and have enjoyed the food by Chef Bob and now the amazing Chef Weaver. It is tough to tell you want to eat, because the menu changes with the season. If pork bell or venison is on the menu, order it. I truly feel that the food is worth every penny. The wine list is the largest in Charleston, if I’m not mistaking, provided by Rick Rubel. The staff is the best in town. Micky Bast is the ladies man at the door and is always able to escort the ladies to the table. The restaurant is great any day of the week, but the nights that the Quentin Baxter ensemble plays are amazing. The Grille invigorates all the senses, fills the belly and warms the soul. You will drop some bread at this place, It is not uncommon to drop $200 +, for a table of two but I insist it is worth every penny.
I had the opportunity to visit with the Charleston Grill with a small group this week on a business trip.
After noticing several homeless people on the way to the restaurant and seeing the price list I couldn't help but feel guilty.
The food was commendable but as stated by another reviewer the portions were considerably small. I was very pleased knowing someone else was picking up the bill on THIS trip!
I've dined in many fine restaurants and the value comes up short at the Charleston Grill. Lovely atmosphere, poor value. Sorry Mickey...Thumbs down for me!
Mickey and his staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They treat everyone as a friend and even though it was 3 months between our first and second visit, they remember our names. My wife and I love to eat at good resturants. We have been fortunate to travel throughout the US and a number of foreign countries. This is one of the best resturants for food, service and ambiance. My daughter is planning her wedding in Charleston and she was so taken by Mickey,Chef Waggoner and their staff that we are going to host her wedding reception dinner at their resturant.
My husband and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary here. We were treated so well! The staff was very accomodating and couldn't have made us feel more special. The food was wonderful! The portions weren't really large, but were filling. We will definitly go back the next time we're in Charleston.
In most any other city this would be THE top Restaurant. But We are talking Charleston SC - a few days there and you are a food snob. -There is some serious cooking going on in this town.
The Charleston Grill
The Restaruant is elegant, the service impeccable, A good jazz trio povided entertainment, But the meal did not come up to par. Perhaps an off night for the chef.
Several people had recommended it to us. But the night we ate there it was not up to our expectations.
There are a considerable number of eating establishments in Charleston that truly ooze class and the Grill is one of them. The ambiance is first class, the setting warm and cozy and gives one the feeling of eating in a first class restaurant in Europe. Do not compare prices with MacDonald's but be ready for outstanding dining for which a price has to be paid.
