We had dinner with friends last eve. The service was not good. Items ordered never showed up. My meal was incomplete and was told the rest was coming. It never appeared as well. My wife's dinner was shrimp and was overcooked and DRY. We had a hard time with refills all night. There is no return trip here!!!
Forget the Tex-Mex chains, this place is the read deal. Authentic mexican food. Nice decor, great garden patio. Service was fast, food fixed to order, simple & well prepaired. They show that good Mexican food does not have to be hot. If you want hot, ask for it or the hot sauce is on the table.
First time to this restaurant. Always on a quest for good Mexican food since leaving San Diego. This was pretty good, definitely authentic. I like a little more kick to my food but this was not bad. I had the Wet Steak burrito and my husband had tamales. Both good. Dinners ran 9.50 each and came with rice and beans (good). The service was a little rough but would go back again.
Delicious and authentic Mexican food. A little more expensive than generic Mexican restaurants but then again its not your average Mexican restaurant. The fresh ingredients and huge portions make it my favorite Mexican restaurant on the peninsula.
Tried out this place for the first time last Saturday night based on reviews here. I took a set of printed directions, which halfway into the trip I realized that this restaurant is actually much closer to downtown Charleston (on the outskirts anyways) than North Charleston. No biggie though.
The inside is very reminiscent of a Huddle House or Waffle House setup, though it's been nicely reworked. I have a suspicion that it probably used to be a Huddle House in a former life.
The atmosphere was pleasant. Very dark with fairly low volume Mexican music, but the place seemed to be pretty full and lively (I had to sit at the bar) so it had a nice social feel to it.
Menu had a lot of fairly traditional items on it - all short order as the kitchen was right there in front of the bar. I was in the mood for some fish taco's, but unfortunately the weren't on the menu so I settled for a Mexican style pork taco dinner. The food arrived very quickly and was great. Very spicy which is how I like it.
My only complaint would be the size of the place. It's pretty small and was very busy so space was at a premium for sure. As a plus though, given that it's on the outskirts of downtown parking was no problem at all.
We drive to Santi's at least once a week for lunch. We love the seating in the garden, makes you feel as if you're out of town, vacationing. The service is good and friendly and prices make it even more inviting and worth the drive.
