82 Queen is pricey but have you seen the other restaurants? Perfect Meal!! My husband is a certified cook and it is difficult at best to find a restaurant that pleases him. We had the fried green tomatoes, roasted beet salad, shrimp and grits and frogmore stew ... all incredible!! There are many upscale restaurants in Charleston but 82 Queen keeps to the low country where as the others you can get their same type of food in N.Y or Vegas. We will definitely be back to 82 Queen.
My second visit here was exactly the opposite experience as the first. The first time we were seated in a quiet area of the outdoor courtyard. The second time we were squeezed into a table upstairs directly under the AC vent. Will the real 82 Queen please stand up. For their prices and the great choices in Charleston, I won't gamble to find out!
My wife and I went to 82 Queen over our anniversary weekend last year and had a great time. The menu, lighting, and service were top notch. While a bit on the pricey side, visiting 82 Queen is a must for a nice night out on the town in Charleston. While I didn't see it on this list, I would also strongly recommend Hank's in Charleston as well.
This place has really gone downhill. It used to be one of our favorite Charleston restaurants, but our last visit, with guests, was mediocre, at best. Our waiter had all the personality of a cardboard cut-out of Ed Sullivan. When we asked for some information on a California claret he told us he wasn’t much of a red wine drinker, but knew it was a blend of red wines. My wife and I always split salads, as do our guests, and had done so two previous nights at SNOB and Cypress with no problem. Here at 82 Queen, however, they notified us there was a $3 charge to split salads. The amount doesn’t bother me as much as the cheesy attitude of a supposedly upscale restaurant to charge for splitting a damn salad. My meal was billed as a shrimp and crawfish etouffee, but the only crawfish was one whole-bodied mud bug tossed on top of the dish. The shrimp were overcooked and the etouffee itself was pretty tasteless. I had to ask for Tobasco to add some taste to it. This place is off our list altogether.
Went to 82 Queen on honeymoon stay and my wife and I both enjoyed it. Also they have a very nice place to sit outside and its not on the side walk. Service was great and food was perfect. Will definitely go back next vacation in Chaleston.
In preparing for my honeymoon, I researched the internet for a great restaurant in Charleston for our first night there. I at last picked 82 Queen, sorry I did. We arrived early, to have a drink in the bar. The drink was good and the service great. After that the service went to rock bottom. We were seated and waited at least 10 minutes for the waiter. We were informed that two people would be taking care of us. I thought great, but NOT. Throughout the whole dining experience we sat unattended with drink glasses empty, I had to flag down the waiter just to get a drink. The food was ok, but not outstanding. For the price we paid, I expected a lot more. On a factor of service the dial would say “0”. So save yourself of a bad service experience, not to mention over priced food. There is a Tappas bar there, Meritage,235 E Bay St, skip 82 Queen and go there.
We just returned from a romantic getaway in Charleston. This was our first trip there and had 82 Queen recommended to us by the Inn we were staying at. The best recommendation I have gotten so far.
As soon as you walk in you know you are somewhere special. The staff was excellent. The ambience was fantastic. Reservations were made last minute so we ended up in the carriage house instead of the garden. Trust the carriage house was wonderful too!!
The food was superb!! Presented well and delicious! Portions were almost more then you need! Our server Wes was most polite and helpful!!
This is a must do when in Charleston . . . take the recommendation to leave this on for the adults!!
