Where to start. There was 9 of us for dinner recently, one who MUST eat here every time she is in from L.A. This one patron can not believe I have not eaten here since I am a long time local. The food: cornbread (which was $2.50) was as bland as dry, white, toast. She-crab soup was incredibly uneventful and there was NO crusty bread or even saltines in the house to serve w/it. Black bean cake was horrible. Turnip greens had to have been out of a can considering the texture Shrimp & grits were dry and could use a bit of cream sauce. Service: Spotty at best. Server was difficult to find. The only saving grace for Hominy Grill is their desserts. I was really looking forward to trying this T.V. favorite. I am very thankful someone else paid for my meal because I would have been very irritated had I paid the over inflated prices for food that barely edible.

We ate at Hominy Grill in 2010. I have enjoyed good country food all over the Eastern USA. The food here is not as good as an amatuer could make. The shrimp creole was the worst I have ever had. As for the fried chicken, grandma's would put this to shame. Don't waste your time or money.

Just to tell you that my wife and I stopped in just for the pancakes. If they are 4 best than my pancakes are number 2. Do not waste your time and money. You can get more for your money at Market Street or your Hotel

We recommend reservations. Showed up about 6 p.m. without one and got the last available table for about one hour. Wife got the shrimp and grits. My son got the eggplant sandwich. I got the fried catfish and cheese grits. Food was flavorable and filling. Service was a little slow, which we blamed on the full restaurant. Won't hold it against them. The chocolate pudding desert was the best pudding I have ever had.

Service was good. Wait staff prompt and on time. Food, however, was overpriced for the portions one gets. The Shrimp and Grits was very bland and the Big Nasty was not that filling. The coconut pie tasted as if it came out of a box and was also lacking in flavor. Very overpriced fried green tomatoes, 3 slices in ranch sauce for almost $8.00. Not impressed and would not recommend to anyone visiting Charleston.

This was by far the most memorable dining experience I had on my first trip to Charleston last week. The restaurant itself is charming; we ate on the pleasant outdoor patio, which was shielded nicely from the streets. Service was very friendly and attentive. The food itself was delicious; I got the 3 veggie platter with sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and tomatoes and okra. Loved all three. I also tried the grits, squash casserole, apple sauce, and green beans from my family member's plates-delish. For dessert, I had to try their famous chocolate pudding, and it didn't disappoint. I also had a bite of their pecan pie, which was probably the best pecan pie I've ever tasted. All in all, I highly recommend this place if you want to try some good southern cuisine. I look forward to visiting again.

Excellent place for dinner but they are most famous for their breakfast. Vast selection of veggies (hoppin john is black eyed peas and rice?!) and the shrimp and grits had a nice spice but the grits couldda been a bit fluffier. Nice atmosphere, worth a visit.

Keeping it true to its southern style, HG never misses a beat. Ten years and running says enough for me! Robert and his well suited staff brings me back again and again. A must when in Charleston! Lovely!
