Bubba Gump Shrimp Company
This downtown warehouse restaurant is a fun place for large groups and casual get-togethers. Anyone who has seen the movie "Forrest Gump" knows that the Gumps know shrimp. Fried shrimp, BBQ Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Drunken Shrimp, Shrimp Scampi, Shrimp Shack Pasta;it is all here and more. And all the seafood served is fresh off the restaurant's own shrimp trawlers. Shrimp is not the only thing they do here though. You can order up a platter of Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs, a burger, or a cool, creamy smoothie too.
11/27/2008 This was a great place to have a wedding rehearsal dinner. We had 28 people & 3 children. They gave each person several choices from a menu designed specifically for the wedding couple and a children's menu. They set us up in our own section upstairs. We brought in a Groom's cake & they set up a separate table for it. They played their usual Bubba Gump trivia game but added trivia about the wedding couple with prizes. We had 2 waiters just for our group. Everyone raved about the food. They were extremely accommodating & attentive to our group.Check them out for your next party. They can accommodate larger parties too.
This was the first trip to Charleston for my hubby and I and we went to Bubba Gumps based on the good reviews here. It was all we had hoped for. The food was scrumptous, the service was great with a manager coming by more than once to see if all was ok, the ambiance was fun, and we didn't have to wait in line; but we were there on a Monday night so I'm sure it would be much busier on a weekend. Whole-heartedly recommended.
You owe yourself to explore a little bit beyond the main drag and pass over this nationwide chain in favor of local seafood eateries that are better priced, serve local dishes and are decorated with authentic beach-themed tchockes. The seafood here is over priced, especially for the area, and its three floors are always packed, usually with large parties.
That said, their service is excellent. If you do go, be kind to your wait staff, they work hard and I go to school with a hefty chunk of them. If you feeled stressed out/ripped-off leaving this place (you probably will) imagine how they feel!
Unless you have a gaggle of kids in tow, skip this one altogether.
Again, an awesome restaurant. I was in Charleston alone and when I saw the restaurant, I had to eat there. While waiting for my dinner, the waitress came over and talked to me for awhile. She asked where I was from, why I was in Charleston, and what have I seen so far. Thanks for the friendly service and great food.
My first visit to a Bubba Gumps restaurant, we dont have them in England, I found the food ,service and atmospere fantastic.
I bought a Bubba Gump beer glass, which I now use in my local pub back in England.
Definitely not my type of seafood. I was very disappointed. Maybe it was what I had, which was the lobster, shrimp, and mahi mahi bites. I didn't care for the spices that were on them. I thought the waitresses stood around a lot and didn't really take much interest in their customers.
