My husband and I were recently in Asheville for 9 days, and ate at the Sunny Point Cafe twice, once for lunch, and once for breakfast. For lunch we had vegetable soup and fried green tomatoes. The soup was very good, and the tomatoes were excellent. I'd give that meal 4 stars. For breakfast we had omelets, veggie sausage, a biscuit, and home fries. The omelets were overcooked -- dry and even hardened on the edges. The veggie sausage was also overcooked, like hockey pucks - they were hard to cut with a knife. The potatoes were tiny squares like you can buy in frozen foods, and not very tasty. The biscuit was delicious. I'd give that meal 2 stars. So, I'm averaging the two meals at 3 stars. When we go back to Asheville, we probably won't go back to the Sunny Point Cafe.

I ate there once, took my niece out for her birthday. To my thinking, it is not the type food I prefer, more of a health-food place. Hey, I like health food, but not that type. I do not even know how to describe the food.

Menu is not terribly extensive, but the food they have is good, yes, even unique! I eat there when visiting Ashevile, and don't care about being seen, since no one knows me here anyway! I like the food, and the service is good.

Its yet another "unique" place in town, just as unique as anywhere else, overrated eatery. Don't believe the hype, its more of a be seen place for the scene, nothing worth bragging about.

My fave!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/09
Sunny Point can't be beat. Hands down my favorite place to eat and I would eat there every day if I could. The staff boasts many who have been there from the beginning which is impressive. The owner is usually present and makes a point to interact with his guests though always working hard himself. The atmosphere is vibrant and eclectic. Above all though is the food. Wonderfully fresh, local and organic ingredients, imaginative yet balanced takes on classic favorites. You can't go wrong with any selection.

Sunny Point Cafe & Bakery is Awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/09
Absolutely one of the best breakfasts in Asheville. Sometimes the wait late on Sunday morning can be a little long, but it's totally worth it! Dinner's are terrific as well, and half-price wine on Saturdays makes it even more worthwhile.

The only place we eat out in Asheville! Reasonable prices, nice servers and atmosphere. Whenever my brother visits he always wants to eat here. He said, "If I lived in Asheville, I'd eat here everyday and probably weigh 300 pounds." It's great food!

The best restaurant in Asheville!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/08
In my opinion, Sunny Point is the best restaurant that Asheville has to offer. They offer affordable entrees...presented in an amazing way. Their specials never cease to please. The atmosphere is fun too...crowded, but very pleasant on the porch. Go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner...but get there as early as you can since the parking lot and seating fills up quickly. Try the Tostada with grit cakes....absolutely delicious. Their shrimp & grits are also divine. My husband loves the smoked pimento cheese sandwich and I often order one of their seasonal salads. My favorite sandwich is definitely the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato). It's about the best thing since sliced bread! We visited Sunny Point at Valentine's Day and had a 5 course meal with paired wines that completely wowed us. I've had their beef, chicken, pork, vegetable plate and amazing stuffed french toast...you name it...everything is prepared incredibly with a beautiful presentation. But, the absolute best part of Sunny Point is their homemade desserts. Try the hazelnut creme' brulee. They top it with seasonal fruit and bananas which takes it to a whole new level. I've never had anything as good as that anywhere else in Asheville.

Tasty!

Sunny Point has great fresh food and a great location. I had the best waffles there! It was very busy which made it noisy to talk with my friend but the food was great.

shrimp and grits throwdown
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/8/08
The Sunny Point's shrimp and grits have ruined me for all others. The grit to tomato and cheese ratio is perfect. The bacon adds just the perfect level of spice and the shrimp is always cooked perfectly. Everyone I have taken to the Sunny Point has loved the food and the nice casual atmosphere. It is fun to people watch and invariably you will have a conversation with someone you have never met. Although I have pigeon-holed myself to the shrimp and grits all of the other dishes I have tried are fantastic. The lobster omelet is delectable with a perfect mixture of cheese and lobster along with a dreamy sherry sauce that makes you want to lick the plate. If you can't save room for dessert take it with you. I am partial to the chocolate mousse cake but its all good. When my mom comes to visit me in Asheville she insists on a visit to the Sunny Point.
