Bistro 1896, Asheville

I was attracted to the place because it was not part of a chain, it was in a good location and appeared to have a pleasant ambiance. I was seated fairly quickly and the drink I ordered arrived promptly. Thereafter things went downhill. Of the next three things I ordered, Appetiser, entree and a further drink two were not available. There was an alternate for one but I wasn't informed about this, I only know it existed from overhearing a conversation ar another table. After this I was ignored for 20 minutes, at which point I left leaving the money for my first drink, which was all that had arrived. I know I should have complained and given the restaurant an opportunity to put things right but I'm english and we are not good at complaining!

No better than a chain like Applebees, which is acceptable if your expectations are for the average.

What a great place to eat! Right in downtown asheville for those who like to people watch. The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and the place was packed! the food was the best part, as it should be! I had the apple pear salad wow what a treat for my taste buds! My wife had the Chicken Bell Air salad, with goat cheese balls, rolled in crushed nuts and fried ummmm.. and the dressing that came with this dish was to die for!!
