Pomodoros Greek & Italian Cafe-East

Description

Pomodoros offers an authentic Mediterranean experience in the heart of Western North Carolina. Drawing our inspiration from the countries of Greece and Italy, we tempt the palate with three separate menus (Lunch, Dinner and Sunday Brunch) of diverse and innovative dishes using the freshest and finest ingredients. Pomodoros is a full service restaurant that provides an extensive wine list, a full bar, catering, and friendly service. Our three distinct menus reflect our commitment to providing only the finest fresh ingredients. Our cuisine pairs regional traditions of Greece and Italy with the diverse culinary talents of our chefs. "The basis of each dish is always in the tradition of the region, but the ingredients guide the way to new delights as well as old favorites." Pomodoros uses only the finest oils that have zero Trans-Fats and are not partially hydrogenated.

Enjoyable food and atmosphere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/10
Two of these locally owned restaurants in the area. One on Long Shoals Rd and the other on Hwy 70/Tunnel Rd. All meals have been superb whether eating there for lunch, early bird dinner or celebratory dinner. The owners strive to achieve quality dishes using alot of locally grown produce. And it works! The ambience is upscale with an international hip vibe.

Eat the Calamari!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/13/10
My husband & I ate Sunday brunch at Pomodoro's during a weekend trip to Asheville. The food was amazing, most especially the calamari which was absolutely astounding. The service was also excellent. It is not located in Asheville's restaurant district so it is a bit of a drive, but well worth it.

Fantastic! Plenty of space around your table, giving a sense of privacy. Great service. Wonderful food. Best calamari I've ever had. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Although Pomodoros is off the tourist beaten path, I would recommend this restaurant as a worth while dining experience. We have eaten at Pomodoros a number of times (too many to count) since we happened upon the restaurant about 5 years ago. I still remember how shocked we were on our first visit after our initial dining experience - How did we possibly miss this place; and why had we not been told about it!?! We hear a lot more about Pomodoros these days; and after we clued in friends, it has become one of their favorites as well. I love the restaurant's ambiance. It is a restaurant that could be considered romantic and intimate; but is also great for family dinners. It is a perfect blend! The food is consistently delicious and the respectable wine selection is a plus for me. The service is attentive and amicable, I don't think a glass has ever been empty on our table! The portions are usually more then I can finish, but for some reason I can't help myself and order appetizers to start. Brunch is wonderful here as well. I just cant say enough about this place. Their Duck ala Melangrana and Aragosta Zafferano are two of our favorite dishes. (DH just walked in the room and said...not to forget to mention their Mahi me Stayfylia and their Ricco Fillet ) Anyway, I hope my review helps someone out there making a decision. And I hope your visit is as fabulous as ours. Another location has opened in Arden, but we have not been there...... yet.

BEST of Asheville!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/08
"This was our very first visit to Pomodoros and from the moment we entered until the moment we left, it was the most pleasant dining experience. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Throughout our dinner, our glasses were kept full, our empty plates whisked away - all unobtrusively. Immediately after ordering our meal, fresh-baked, still-warm-crusty on the outside, soft and dense on the inside - Italian bread was served with a nappy-dish of fine Olive Oil and herbs for dipping. We ordered the Calamari to start. It was a beautiful, tender melt-in-your-mouth dish. The sweetness of the Balsamic reduction contrasted well with the pepperoncini (banana peppers) and diced tomatoes to create an explosion of flavor in the mouth. I could easily have eaten that as just a meal in itself. We both chose the soup-of-the-day (rather than a salad) which was a smooth and thick potatoe and cheese soup that was well-flavored and prepared. Delisioso! For our entrees, my husband ordered the Veal Saltimbocca which was tender to the butter knife. It had just the right amount of prosciutto and mozzarella cheese melted on top. It was served with roasted potatoes and fresh stir-fried baby spinach. I ordered the duck which was cooked to perfection! It was tender, succulent, & juicy...the skin was just crispy without any toughness to it. My dish was served with slices of tasty, cheesy polenta as well as the baby spinach. We were quite full after our meal, and had no intention of having dessert. However, after spying a Tirimisu being served at the table next to us, we admitted to ourselves that perhaps if we shared, we might just be able to have a bit of dessert. It was THE BEST Tirimisu - short of a trip to Italy! The sponge cake was indeed properly soaked in the appropriate espresso and liquers and the marscapone was delectible. As a side note - the coffee was the perfect finishing touch. When we first looked at the menu, we felt it was on the pricey side...but we must admit to Pomodoro's being worth every bit of what we paid for the pure joy of exquisite food and service! "We will be back!" ADDED NOTE: There are now TWO Pomodoros to choose from!!!

Real food, real flavor and worth it.
By Skyz, 5/7/07
I think this is a good date restaurant because the tables arent all crammed together. Refills on drinks and such are a bit slow but the food makes up for the waitstaff. The chicken marsala is wonderful. The mozzarella appetizers are real cheese and not the frozen things other restaurants serve. A down side of Pomodoros is the smoking area is outside. So if it is raining, be prepared to sit in the rain if you want to smoke. Otherwise the seating inside is excellent. Pomodoros has Greek and Italian style foods, pizza to order and a wine list. They offer seasoned olive oil w/ fresh, hot bread - I suggest no one ever pass this up. The pricing varies, but when I go, I plan on about $20 per person, not including alcohol. Most recently I began w/ the Broccoli & Cheese cream soup, it was wonderful. My dinner was Shrimp ala Carbonara. The shrimp was perfect, not rubberized! The pasta soaked up all the sauce, but it was still very good and enough to feed two hungry people. Always good food, peaceful & pleasant atmosphere and a reasonably attentive staff.

Excellent Dining without the wait!!
By steve k, 11/21/06
This has become our favorite Asheville restaurant for many reasons. That is saying a lot considering how many great restaurants there are in Asheville. First of all, the food is always wonderful in many aspects. We usually try something new every time we go and have not been disappointed. Orders have always been served hot in a reasonable amount of time, the presentation of the entree's is always beautiful, and the combination of ingredients is always refreshing and delectable. Ambience is right on for dates or couples and the staff seem to genuinely enjoy working there which comes through in their excellent service.

An Italian/Greek Masterpiece
By Wayners, 6/17/06
This is my favorite Greek/Italian restaurant in Asheville. The ambiance is perfect for dining with friends or that special someone and the service has always been impecable. I have fallen in love with the eggplant parmesan which tops the quality and preparation of chain giant Olive Garden. Serving sizes are more than adequate for any appetite although I would suggest saving room for the Baklava with ice cream. I work in the hotel industry and when asked, this establishment is always my first recommendation. Guests have always returned raving about their experience and the food quality. My only disappointment is that the restaurant is a non-smoking establishment, but there is an area for dining al fresco that solves that issue, pending cooperation from the weather. For casual dining or romantic adventures, Pomodoros will not be a disappointment.
