BEST of Asheville!

"This was our very first visit to Pomodoros and from the moment we entered until the moment we left, it was the most pleasant dining experience. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Throughout our dinner, our glasses were kept full, our empty plates whisked away - all unobtrusively. Immediately after ordering our meal, fresh-baked, still-warm-crusty on the outside, soft and dense on the inside - Italian bread was served with a nappy-dish of fine Olive Oil and herbs for dipping. We ordered the Calamari to start. It was a beautiful, tender melt-in-your-mouth dish. The sweetness of the Balsamic reduction contrasted well with the pepperoncini (banana peppers) and diced tomatoes to create an explosion of flavor in the mouth. I could easily have eaten that as just a meal in itself. We both chose the soup-of-the-day (rather than a salad) which was a smooth and thick potatoe and cheese soup that was well-flavored and prepared. Delisioso! For our entrees, my husband ordered the Veal Saltimbocca which was tender to the butter knife. It had just the right amount of prosciutto and mozzarella cheese melted on top. It was served with roasted potatoes and fresh stir-fried baby spinach. I ordered the duck which was cooked to perfection! It was tender, succulent, & juicy...the skin was just crispy without any toughness to it. My dish was served with slices of tasty, cheesy polenta as well as the baby spinach. We were quite full after our meal, and had no intention of having dessert. However, after spying a Tirimisu being served at the table next to us, we admitted to ourselves that perhaps if we shared, we might just be able to have a bit of dessert. It was THE BEST Tirimisu - short of a trip to Italy! The sponge cake was indeed properly soaked in the appropriate espresso and liquers and the marscapone was delectible. As a side note - the coffee was the perfect finishing touch. When we first looked at the menu, we felt it was on the pricey side...but we must admit to Pomodoro's being worth every bit of what we paid for the pure joy of exquisite food and service! "We will be back!" ADDED NOTE: There are now TWO Pomodoros to choose from!!!
