Boy was I surprised with this restaurant. Expecting to go in for a "beer and some wings" in a Chili's type of restaurant I encountered one of the best steaks I have eaten. Thans to our informed and friendly server I learned his restaurant has aged Certified Angus steaks. They are absolute perfection. Tripps' beef outclasses Outback, Texas Roadhouse, etc. I will put them up against any of the "hipper" restaurants of which I frequent.
For lighter fare try the Sante Fe Pasta which is finished with a sweet red pepper cream sauce also known as a "diablo sauce" in some restaurants - my traveling companion raved about it.
The ceasar salad is excellent. The fresh baked bread with olive oil are reason enough to check out this Asheville landmark. i can vouch for the frozen Mocha Mud Pie covered in hot fudge or the real Carnegie Deli Cheesecake topped with your choice of strawberries, caramel, or chocolate for dessert.
The wine selection includes respectable selections like Hahn Chardonney, Eco Domoni Pinot Grigio, Ravenswood Zinfandel, and Greg Norman Carbernet. A great selection of beers including all domestic and import/premiums Guiness, Bass, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Sam Adams, and one of my favorites - Asheville's own Highland Gaelic Ale. You may also choose from a wide variety of fine liquors and specialty drinks including the "Perfect Margarita" made with Patron and Cointreau which my friend enjoyed.
The service was prompt and friendly. Joe, the manager, came by and made sure we were satisfied with our experience.
I will be back to Tripps when I am in Asheville!
