Really enjoyed our dinner here. Will definitely eat here again the next time we are in Asheville. The food was great, the service was prompt, and the atmosphere was cheerful.

Very overrated. We had breakfast that we could not even finish. Sausage patties had a spoiled taste and hashbrown potatoes were burnt. They did not have packets of sugar for the coffee, it was a glass bowl that you poured. The sugar was packed in and the waitress handed me an ink pen to stick in the opening to loosen the sugar to pour---disgusting! I would never visit this restaurant again.

My husband and I were in Asheville for 9 days, and ate at the Early Girl Eatery based on online reviews. We had a tempeh reuben and enjoyed it. If we lived in Asheville, we'd go back to the Early Girl every so often.

I have been eating here since they opened 9 years ago(I am a local) and have always been very satidified with my meal. When I have company from out of town, we always make a point to eat here. It exemplifies all that Asheville is-diverse, homey, health conscious, friendly, supportive of local farmers/businesses and welcoming to visitors. You should definitely give it a try!

The food was good and it was very flavorful, i had meat loaf, mac and cheese, and collard greens. The meatloaf and mac and cheese is not made the traditional way, but its very good, the collards were the best that i have had in a while. I really enjoyed the experience. I was greeted nicely, but the waitress was ok, the atmosphere was nice, i would definately go there again and i would reccomend it to people.

We went to Early Girl for lunch. I heard they have great breakfast - and they serve it all day - but we were really in the mood for lunch. We had the Early Girl Platter which was black eyed pea hummus, pimento cheese and avocado relish with bread and fruit. I was a little disappointed in the whole thing. They gave you a ton of bread and not much of anything else. The hummus, pimento and relish were all good, but it was nothing outstanding. I had a salad with pear and fried goat cheese. It was very good, but again, a small half pear on top, three little balls of goat cheese and a ton of spinach. I think the best thing we had was the kids mac and cheese and chicken fingers - made from scratch. Overall I thought the waitress was fine, the food was good, and the overall atmosphere was good. But I think next time we are in Asheville, we'll go for breakfast.

Fun eatery, good food

This was a fun eatery with some really good food. Small place, a little loud, but decent entrees that were reasonably priced for what you got. Definitely go for breakfast!

went there 12-2007 with my mom and brother who were visiting. I was excited to try the food which was highly touted as "local" as possible, and the trout cakes were quite tasty. Had pork entree which was totally unremarkable and pretty greasy ?deep fried shoestring onions I think. By the end of the meal I slunk out, very disappointed. The service was nice and the decor was good, though.

Good eats in the heart of downtown
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/08
Locals recommended this place for breakfast when my family visited Asheville. Early Girl sits halfway down a quaint historic one-way street full of boutiques in downtown. Staff is welcoming, the space is open and light, and the menu is not large but quite varied. As other reviewers have said, vegans and meat lovers will both be very happy here. I tried the cafe's vegetarian answer to eggs benedict -- two poached eggs and spinach over delicious grit cakes, served with a tangy tomato sauce rather than hollandaise. It was delicious. My mom got two eggs plus potatoes and a biscuit and enjoyed it very much. Regrettably, she found a small hair in her biscuit. The place was spotless and all the staff wore proper headwear so we didn't feel completely bothered, though we did report it to the staff. As a result, Mom's meal was on the house. We will definitely return to Early Girl the next time we come to Asheville, and we would recommend it to anybody.
