A favorite of Boone locals, Cafe Portofino is located in a 100-year- old building on Rivers Street, once the original maintenance station for the historic, Tweetsie Railroad. Completely renovated, with a friendly, open kitchen and a cozy dining room, we offer 5-star dining in a casual atmosphere. The menu is an eclectic mix of sandwiches, pastas and steaks. Cafe Portofino features daily culinary specials and fresh seafood. For those looking for a new pasta dish, try the house specialty Spiced Sirloin over penne pasta with Portofinos signature arrabiatta sauce. The extraordinary wine list compliments the culinary experience and all ABC permits are offered.
Its got what you want, great food at a decent price. And on top of that it has all you need for a great hang out spot, a bar, pool tables, and occasional live bands. Definitely recommend for both tourists and locals alike
I've been to this restaurant twice and have decent experiences both time. Set in the College Town (Appalachian State Univ.) Boone, NC. This place caters to all in the local town, not just the college kids. If you plan to dine at this place during the winter, do not sit near the entrance under the heat b/c you will not feel the heat...and not infront of the heater unless you want to be blown by hot air while you're trying to enjoy your meal.
The food is good. They have an excellent selection for appetizers, the garlic knots are awesome. The wings are offered at 8 @ ~$7 and jump to 40 @ ~$30...it would be better if they had a 20 wing offer at $15...still decent wings.
Their pastas are wonderful! Definitely try any I'm sure they will not disappoint.
I have eaten here twice and I don't know why its not more. The food is awesome. Honestly I think they could easily charge $4-$5 more per plate. Very reasonable price range. I'd estimate average plate around $12 to $15. The food was very good. The staff did their job. I have no complaints.
The pool room area is very smokey.
