Carolina Bagel is a breath of fresh air in New Bern. There food is fresh and well made. Prices are also moderate. I am one of those people who has been around most parts of the country, and I can say that Carolina Bagel has some of the finest bagles and sandwiches found anywhere.
There atmosphere is friendly, professional, and one of cleanliness.
Therefore most short bus riding rednecks will not be comfortable in this environment .
if a good bagel is what you are after, you should go to wal-mart and get a bag of lenders bagels. the ones from here (in my experiences) are always overly hard, have a funny taste to them and are usually uncut. If you try to heat them or toast them to soften them up, some kind of miraculous molecular change occurs, turning an ordinary looking bagel into a concrete tooth breaking disaster.
They do however have great lunch sandwiches though, just don't ask for extra turkey on your sandwich, it seems like it almost doubles the price.
All in all, CB isn't a bad place, you just have to watch what you get and check it before leaving.
Oh and there are a ton of snobs that go in and out of there, you know the ones that think they are better than you, so the atmosphere can be thick sometimes.
Doesn't stop me from going though.
Breakfast or lunch it is a guaranteed fit. Their food is made to order and always fresh. Variety of large bagels cooked daily, with specialty flavors and cream cheeses that change daily. Their chicken salad is the best I've had. They have a great variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. The owners are always visible, working hard to ensure everyone is happy. It has a cozy atmosphere complete with an area of pictures and newspaper cutouts of local happenings around town. It is always busy, and sometimes you have to wait for a table, especially if you go between the hours of 11am and 12:30pm, but it is worth it! If you don't have time, call ahead, place your order and they will have it ready when you get there. They have Boar's Head deli meats available for purchasing as well. The price is a little higher than you would pay for fast food or a typical lunch, but again, it is worth it. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and at Carolina Bagel this is more than true. Try it and you are sure to find something you will enjoy.Hours are from 6am-3pm. Closed on Sunday.
This is a great place to eat. Service and prices aren't bad. The only problem is, there isn't enough room to accomodate all the customers. You will have to wait for seats during lunch. I would recommend it to others.
I know this is a bagel joint, but the pancakes here are the very best I have had in a long time... since I was a kid in fact! Huge, fluffy, and filling. Just like home cooking. The family service here is friendly and prompt. They make a variety of bagels in house, along with many different spreads that can satisfy some of the most discerning of pallets. With the plus of being non-smoking, makes eating there very enjoyable.
With a relatively small seating area, sometimes standing in line to be seated is not uncommon, but well worth the wait. Good for a family of 2-5 members. Parking is at a premium so carpool if you can.
