Chelsea, New Bern

Ok let's talk, I am from Pennsylvania and my sister lives in New Bern. She told me about the best shrimp and grits ever and a place downtown New Bern called Chelsea's. I'm game, never having tried grits before and knowing Sally would not steer me worng. Oh Lordy, the best experience ever. If you get to New Bern don't pass this up, you would be doing yourself an injustice. Next and every visit to Sal, with be a visit to Chelsea's for the Shrimp and Grits... Thank you Wendy

If you read these reviews and honestly take into consideration what is said then you have to go to Chelsea... I have been to several different restaurants in several different states and this one is by far one of the best. It is classy and the food is wonderful. We go at least twice a month. The crab cakes are exceptional and Ron likes the Chelsea filet oscar with lump crab on top. The staff is always friendly and the food exceptional. I can't say enough about the restaurant. The streets are nice to go for a walk after supper. Give it a shot - you will be glad that you did.

Excellent fresh food. I had the best fried green tomato sandwich I've ever had! Great building and attentive staff!

I have lived in this area for a while now, nothing is better than the Chelsea resturant it is my favorite. My daughter is six and she asks to go there all of the time. I love the rgg rolls, and the peanut butter pie. I highly recomed going there to eat. The staff is great as well.

My wife, kids, and I were looking for houses in downtown New Bern and came across the Chelsea around dinner time. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. We were able to eat for a reasonable price. Granted there are some more expensive items on the menu but if your smart you can get a wonderful meal at a bargain price.

Shrimp and Grits - the only place to get this ever!. Calamari comparable to Arturo's in Bally Casino in Atlantic City. Shrimp and Crab house speciality in melted butter and ask for their grits on the side. I hated grits and still do except at this place. The blue cheese dip rocks as does the coconut cream pie. Definately go for lunch if it's your first time and get the shrimp and grits and go for dinner and get the lumped crab and shrimp meal. WOW!! Great staff

The food is great, however service could be better. My husband and I went for dinner one evening and were seated in the far corner where its very secluded, didn't state I wanted to be hiding while eating. I was irate and asked to be moved of course. Other than that the food is excellent and yes we have since been back since the food is so good. No more incidents

Just about everything at the Chelsea is excellent in my opinion! I went for lunch and had my son and daughter w/ me....they ordered macaroni cheese from the kid menu. Well, it's funny, we go to Red Lobster and they get mac & cheese from a box......at the Chelsea it was homemade and so delicious that my kids actually ate all of the food for once! Aside from that, my food was delicious.......the service was excellent and I loved the look of the restaurant.

We ordered the Sesame Seared Tuna which was as lovely as the presentation itself: the wasabi was drizzled on the rim of the plate in such a fashion as too look like a china pattern! Fantastic! After the appetizer, we enjoyed the Coastalina Shrimp and Grits which were the best we've ever had and a must have dish the next time we're in New Bern. The total bill for two with wine, appetizer, and entrees was over $70, so I wouldn't go on a regular basis if I were a local, but it makes for a special treat if you're a guest in town. Also, the ambiance could have been helped a bit if the bartender had pats that fit and we weren't privied to his brand of underwear evertime he turned around.
