Mainsail Restaurant, Surf City

Everything we had at the Mainsail was fabulous. Many of the locals we talked to recommended the Mainsail and we were not disappointed. They have a great selection of pastas, fresh fish, and steaks, but are known for their authentic Maryland style Crab Cakes. They were wonderful, full of crab meat with little filler and broiled not fried. The bar was well stocked with an eclectic wine selection and over many different beers to choose from, microbrews included. I would definitely recommend a night at the Mainsail.

First of all, it's too expensive for a place with paper napkins. I was with a large party and the service was terrible, even though the restaurant was not close to full. The shrimp appetizer tasted like they forgot to put any seasoning on it whatsoever, and every time we needed something we not only were forced to trip a waiter to get their attention, but had to remind them several times before we got what we needed. They then proceeded to mix up whose food was on each ticket, and frustratingly, included the gratuity in the check so that we couldn't even decide for ourselves how to tip for the bad service. There are too many good restaurants in the area to waste time at this one.

wasnt happy with the service for a wedding, it wasnt professional..go down to wrightsville beach, nc..a lot more vendors down there to choose from and hotels are on the beach!...the food at mainsail was good though.

Our family of five just got back from the restaurant and had the following meals. Mozzarella cheese sticks-how can you mess those up, Margarita shrimp-very good, calamari and shrimp with buffalo sauce-calamari was fair, shrimp was good, House salad-plain salad, nothing special, Hamburger-my son said it tasted good, Sesame-Soy glazed tuna-daughter said it was awesome, chipotle chicken-wife said perfectly seasoned and tasted great, Mahi Mahi with Mediterrainean salsa-I enjoyed it, good. The waiter did a very good job, was friendly, never an empty glass and was patient. All-in-all, I'd go there again.

i had a great dinner at the mainsail. the filet was delicious. the mussels and coconut shrimp we had for appetizers were awesome!

I actually worked at this restaurant, and even though my parting was not a pleasent one, I love this place. The food is excellent, 90% of the food is made fresh and by home made reciepes, not from pre-bagged merchandise. I would recommend eating here to anyone. The menu is slightly pricey, but when you add in the fact that they make everything with fresh vegitables and seafood you can appreciate it more. For those that had a bad experience, I am truly sorry to hear that.

Mainsail is a great restaurant. Their seafood is excellent and the steaks are too. Everyone is very polite and we eat there everytime we visit the island.

The Mainsail serves really good food. There is not a lot of ambiance, but our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Watch out for the desserts, we ordered two to go, the chocolate chip cookie, and the key lime pie, both contained nuts. The cookie was very good. Our server didn't tell us, and we didn't ask, but it could be a problem for someone with allergies.
