Jones' Seafood House, Oak Island

I don t understand how a restaurant literally next to the ocean could have seafood so revolting. I ordered the grilled scallops, and while the portion size was huge, I did not care to finish it all. Rubbery, tasteless, and looked very unappetizing as they were swimming in a pool of water and butter (no grill marks to be seen). Other family members were unimpressed by the fried options as well (oysters were not even fully cooked). Side dishes were a joke: we ordered green beans (canned), fruit salad (canned), baked potato (first one my dad was served was rotten in the center), and cucumber salad (about 3 cucumber slices and some red onion floating in Italian dressing). Have quickly found out that you visit Oak Island to enjoy the beach, NOT the food.

We travel to Oak Island every year for vacation. We love Jone s Seafood! The food is absolutely wonderful! The friendly staff always makes you feel welcomed. The servers are attentive and management is awesome. I recommend this place highly for anyone who is a seafood lover. The price is great! The service is great! I have been going to this place for years, and never had any complaints for them. The food isn t overly seasoned, but they will cook it however you like it. The food comes quick, and is fresh and hot. Never a taste of the food having been sitting too long. Excellent food, excellent service and they give you more than enough for the price you pay for the food!! Best seafood restaurant I ve been too!! I d recommend this place to anyone who wants a good hearty meal at a reasonable price!! You WON T be disappointed!!

I can't agree with previous reviews. I found this place to be so good on service and food that I went two days in a row! The hushpuppies are amazing! The portions are large and well priced. I would reccomend this place to anyone who is looking for great seafood.

I agree with most of the other reviewers comments. I have been stopping by Jones Seafood for YEARS as we come to the island at least once a year sometimes more - The last 2 years we've noticed that Jones has really gone down - service was good and friendly, yes hushpuppies were good - except for the fact that our fried meals tasted kind of old - like they are using old greese that hasn't been changed or cleaned. Last year we stopped on the first day we were down and we were so bloated and sick feeling when we left that we couldn't eat for 2 days after. We don't think we will try again this summer. PLEASE CLEAN YOUR GREASE!!!! I think that was the issue.

My wife I stopped to eat here our first night visiting Oak Island. The place had just opened and we were 2nd group to be seated. It is offseason here so the place never was crowded for our visit. We did not order an appetizer. A basket of hush puppies was delivered with cinnamon butter as we waited on our meal. My wife ordered Blackened Mahi Mahi and I ordered grilled Red Snapper. The Mahi Mahi was good and cooked perfect. It was severd with a baked potato, nothing special, and salad, normal salad. The Red Snapper was good, but it was sitting in a little too much oil/butter. It was served with fries, again nothing special, and green beans, overcooked. So, overall, the service was friendly and great, the hush puppies great, and the food average. Try it again, maybe.

Jones Seafood House has some of the best hushpuppies with an incredible cinnaman butter to slather on. We went last week, searching for some good, fried, seafood. They brought me a sweet tea, and it was rancid tasting. I asked the waiter for a different batch, and that batch was even worse. I ordered the fried scallops and oyster dinner. The scallops had too much breading on them, and were overcooked, turning them chewy. Not very good. The oysters were mealy and once again, not very good. Plus, they were tiny. More breading than oyster. Another person in my party had the fried flounder, and it was supposed to be bone free (filet), but it came with a bunch of bones. It was fried to a crisp. The third member of our party ordered the big platter filled with a variety of seafood entrees. He was not happy with any of them. The fourth member of our party had a steak, and it was not of good quality. All in all, it was a bad dinner and we won't be going back. We would rather go to Captain Stanley's where the food is excellant.

My Husband and I go to Jones' every time we visit Oak Island. They have the BEST seafood we have ever ate and GREAT service too. My Husband recomends the large seafood platter and I the peel your own shrimp. YUMMY!!!

Jones' has been on Oak Island for as long as I can remember. They have very good seafood (loved the hush puppies with cinnamon butter when I was there in 2004, btw) and the service is friendly.
