We were so looking forward to going here, and the disappointment was unbelievable. The salad was not cold, the lettuce had to be the kind you buy by the bag - awful, I didn't touch mine, and the server never even asked about it. It was not a busy night - many tables open, but they put us in the bar. It was noisy - and the server should have been working at McDonalds - the food was the caliber of Long John Silvers - and the price was definitely NOT worth it. I would not recommend it - if you want a really nice meal - go to the Bridge Tender.
I have been going to the Oceanic for over 6 yrs, can't find another restaurant like it anywhere and I have been all over the world. The most relaxed and friendliest atmosphere . The food is always the best. I have never been disappointed. I now live in Florida and I will return to NC for a visit in the near future and will continue to patron this restaurant and recommend it to anyone passing through.
The review from the African American Decent person unfortunately had a not so good experience (or they think). I am of the Caucasian American Decent and my wife and our four kids (ages 3,6,7 & 9) all had a WONDERFUL time and we had to wait almost an hour after we put our name on the waiting list, then we were called in and we sat in the back half of the restaurant (even tho we wanted oceanview) where we had a partial ocean full which was fine with us. (Dining area is set up in a square u-shape so everyone sees all or part of the ocean). The servers were all very nice and pleasent and we had a great time. It IS well worth the wait and there were even other people in there of ALL nationalities who seemed to be enjoying themselves quite well. So if you have a bad experience, don't try to bring the discrimination factor in, because it does not work in this case. There are people of all races who even work there and they all seem happy.
Sorry you did not enjoy yourself and hope you find someplace you do. Next time we go, we are going with our neighbors and some friends who are all from different walks of life and we will get wonderful service as well. The food was GREAT, well worth the money.
Last time i went here, which was a few months ago, the food was really good and love that you can sit oceanfront!! Best place to eat on ocean in Wilmington for sure!! You get what u pay for here and will leave feeling full and very satisfied!!!
We had an absolutely fabulous lunch today at the Oceanic Restaurant. The ocean view was impecable and the food was excellent. We had the Shrimp Basket, Shrimp Fresca, and House Seafood Platter and all were wonderful. We also want to thank Chris for his excellent service.
We were staying at the hotel right next to the Oceanic and had lunch an dinner at the Oceanic on the day we arrived, 2008-01-19.
We found the servers at both lunch and dinner to be very attentive yet not pushy at all. They were there whenever we needed anything but were not intrusive at all.
Hush Puppies (4/5) – Simple and delicious, exactly what they should be.
Oyster Sampler Appetizer (4/5) – This was 3 Oyster Rockefeller and 3 Oyster Oceanic (I think that was what they called them) these were a house recipe fixed with a horseradish based stuffing and baked as are Oyster Rockefeller.
Halibut Basket (5/5) – A nicely fried halibut filet and french fries, simple and delicious, crunchy and clean, not greasy or oily at all.
Catfish Basket (5/5) – Ditto above.
They served cocktail sauce and tarter sauce on the side, we don’t eat tarter sauce so I cannot comment on that but the cocktail sauce could have been a bit spicier for our tastes. I usually ask for some ground horseradish on the side to spice it up a bit but I did not ask this time. The fish actually stood on its own very well and we did not even use much of the cocktail sauce.
Seating for lunch was a high top table in the first floor bar area up against the windows and the view of the ocean was wonderful.
Gumbo (4/5) – Mixed seafood gumbo with a nice spice to it and good texture.
Sautéed Grouper Filet (5/5) – Sauteed with wine, butter and capers. Fresh and cooked just right, had a nice flake to it and not overcooked.
Sauteed Mahi Mahi (5/5) – Ditto above again.
Mixed Vegitables (4/5) – We both had these as our side and they were cooked crisp and consisted of Yellow Squash, Zuchinni, Red Bell Peppers, Snow Peas and Brocolli. They were a bit crispy but I would rather have them crisp than mush, we both ate them all anyway so no complaints here.
Seating for dinner was in a side by side booth on the second floor looking out at their pier, it was quite nice I thought.
The oceanic has the best seafood in North Carolina most defintley. The enviorment is really awesome and toatally enjoyable. I love eating there everytime i go to wilmington. The key lime pie is the best dessert on the whole menu in my opinion. I would totally reccomend this resturant to anybody who loves seafood.
