My wife and I visit the downtown location at least twice a year when we are in town. We live about 3 hours away. While in college, we went about once a month! Great atmosphere, friendly service, as if they have known you forever, GREAT food. Typical price for Crab, Oysters, and Shrimp. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Wilmington area!
This is a review for the Monkey Junction loctation.
Dining at Dock Street Bar & Grill was a pleasant surprise. While the menu appeared to be pretty standard fare for the Cape Fear area, the wait staff was courteous and attentive. There was a full bar, of which I only had a beer on tap, and the sweet tea was great; not too sweet and tasted brewed, not mixed from a powder.
These things aren't what sets Dock Street Bar & Grill apart from other seafood places I'd been to recently, though. I ordered a shrimp and scallop platter. I'm picky about my scallops. My wife looked at me funny for ordering them, as I usually only make them at home anymore. The biggest complaint I have is that all the local places overcook the scallops into little white balls of rubber. Not Dock Street Bar & Grill, they cooked the seafood perfectly. The scallops were tender enough that I could split one with just my finger, no fork or knife needed! They were excellent, and the batter was still crisp, without being too heavy. The shrimp were great too, but I'm not quite as picky about those.
My only reservations about the place is that they seem a little pricey for the area, but I'll gladly go back again. It was clean, nicely decorated, well staffed and made for an enjoyable meal with my family and a friend!
