Nikko Japanese Restaurant
Nikko Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar has a high energy atmosphere with a contemporary style. We are known for inventive, excellent, award winning sushi as well as the finest modern Japanese cuisine. Nikko has the feel of a upscale New York city restaurant with the promise to be hot and sexy. We have an assortment of over 300 bottles of fine wines as well as a full service bar. We feature a large private dining room with a full projection screen for company events or any other special occasion. Joannas welcoming personality with feather boa and trademark cowboy hat with tambourine overwhelms guests with Sushi Love when sake bombs are requested.
At night this place is HOPPING! The owner normally wears a cowboy hat and goes dancing around the restaurant with a tamberine while a spotlight shines on the disco ball. It's a little pricey so you're mainly paying for the chic setting but the sushi is good.
I live here in North Carolina, but I'm originally from California. In the past four years I've tried other sushi restaurants in North Carolina and this is the first one I've been to that I can honestly say compares in quality to what I use to get when I dined at the sushi restaurants back in the Bay Area. I loved the atmosphere, the service was excellent, the servers were friendly, the owners had a personable, helpful approach and very much involved with the front of the house, which I feel is key to the success of your restaurant. Now I only wished I lived closer to Charlotte, so I could dine here every week.
This is a one star restaurant. We were greeted so rudely. The service was mediocre and the food was average. We had reservations and were told that had we taken any longer they were going to give our table away. Nice greeting! Then we were seated at the worst table next to loud mouths boasting about their sex lives. The owner is quite a trip with the hat and make-up. If you go please see the large portrait of her on the way to the restrooms. Sure to make you hurl! We will never go again.
Their new South Blvd. location is definitely the place to be for young wanna be Yuppies. Nice new modern look. Three times the space! Also three times the wait. Table service is spuratic and not timed well. The servers are way to busy and can not give each diner the proper dining experience they expect. What ever you do, don't ask for separate checks. Hope instead that the Yuppie with the most money at your table picks up the check. The servers do! Also don't be fooled by the complimentary Sake Bomb offered on occasion, you'll be paying for it, literally. Oh yes, the Sushi. Quite good, nothing fancy, no imagination, but quite good.
Restaurant = A
Sushi = B
Managment = F (the owner should not be the MOD)
Servers = are only as good as their managment
Experience = wont be back!
Nikko on South Blvd is fairly good - this review refers to Nikko in Ballantyne. I have gone there several times, even though it is mediocre, because it is close. The last time I went two weeks ago, it was so bad, I could not believe it. The nori and fish were chewy and the fish looked like scraps. I was so disappointed that I will never go back.
I was in Charlotte on Business and Nikko was recommended to me for good sushi. I am glad I went!
The selection was huge and had many combo plates to choose from. The service was fast and friendly, and the sushi was excellent. And I LOVED the ginger dressing!
I give it 2 thumbs WAY up!
Whatever you do in North Carolina, you gotta get to Nikko's! Ask for Nobu, he is Dr. Sushi fingers! Tell him Ali sent you.... This place was great would stay in Ballentyne just to go here, don't forget to ask for the Sake Bomb!
The best sushi we ever had hands down from Japan to Hawaii to DC!!!
