Big Ed's is the BEST. Stumbled upon it looking for breakfast with my daughter and grandson one Saturday. We all loved it. So much so, when my other daughter was married recently, most of our guest were out of towners. We arranged for everyone to have a "post-wedding" breakfast at Big Ed's. Just what the doctor ordered after a great evening of partying. Food is great, service is great. Big Ed's gets our collective big thumbs UP!

Restuarant

Southern cooking at its finest! My first trip was an adventure - not just because of the food, but to soak in the culture! The food is good (not necessarily good FOR you!) and the service is good. My favorite is to come on a Saturday morning with the kids - sausage is awesome!

A good country breakfast in downtown Raleigh.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/09
The seating is tight, but you don't mind because it means you can get a seat quicker. The food is just down-home. The wait staff is friendly and responsive even in the tight spaces. The Saturday morning we were there, there was a band playing out front.

Good Country eating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/5/09
Bid Ed's is some good Country eating. They have it all, but be carefully if you go on weekends. There will be a line for this southern cooking. It makes me feel like I am eating with my grandparents again.

Old-Fashioned Food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/3/09
If you are looking for country cooking and service where the waitress will call you 'Hon', then you have got to head to Big Ed's. But be warned, if you go on a weekend, check the hours and be prepared to wait in line. This is a local favorite, so the line for Sat breakfast can get a little long, but its worth it.

By and large the worst experience in all of Raleigh.  This is one place I would not recommend to anyone.  The hype is there and the location is great, but my experience with this establishment was terrible.  I would gladly patronize any fast food joint over this place. They are making me provide a rating. I will give it one star as I do not have the option for negatives.

Big Ed's are good however, they are a little overated. I heard so much buzz about this place that I felt pressed to go. The pancakes were incredible, however thats about it. I would get one pancake from there and get the rest of my meal from Biscuitville.

Just like back in the day
By Barbara C, 7/10/07
It's just like I would cook at home on a Sunday rainy day. Comfort food!! The lima beans are perfect. They're buttery and tender and no one except my mom knows how to cook them. No restaurant ever has been able to cook a lima. Everything else is what I expect it to be. This is the only place I would go out of my way for and that's to go to a teller to get cash to pay for my meal. This place should never go away.

Pancake...
By Amy K, 5/21/07
1 is all it takes. The pancake is so big the edges hang off the plate. And THICK!!!! If I'm super hungry I can get about 3/4 way through it. Unfortunately- I usually only hit the 1/2 way mark. Life (and lunch) doesn't get much better than Big Ed's.

This place is great! They have the BEST country, down-home cooking you will ever have. I highly recommend them. Especially their Chicken Pastry!
