Udupi Cafe is a good reason to live. I have been going there almost weekly for a few years. The weekend lunch buffet is the best way to sample the cooks skills. The food is outstanding, and is widely varied in flavor, texture, appearance, and ingredients. The waiters are kind and efficient, and the owners often check in on their customers. This is my favorite restaurant in North Carolina.
What a Gem! We had dinner with vegetarian friends there last night. The food was fresh, nicely seasoned and very flavorful. Prior to going there we've had some pretty bad experiences eating so called authentic South Indian food in Edison, NJ so we had our reservations about going to Udupi. But we were proven wrong! This place is great. The food was excellent (even for carnivores like us) and the wait staff was prompt, courteous, friendly and attentive (but not intrusive). We will definitely go back and become regulars there.
Great food and service. I did have one dish that I thought was fair. and a bit dissapointed. For the most part it is very good. I have been there about 15 times. Weekend buffet is great. $12- (weekday $8-) All vegetarian food is the big plus for me. That aside, it is excellent food.
I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table or for service. Once I went on a Saturday for buffet and there was a line out the door. For dinner and most buffet times there was no problem. In addition they are very child friendly. (my 2 year old makes a mess and cruises the place entertaining the patrons; however, she is cute , sweet, kind, smart, funny, and maybe this is why).
We like the vegetarian food here. Food tastes fresh here and is authentic in style. Need more waiters but we can live with it as they are concentrated on getting job done rather than getting tips. I have been here 6 times. Going for a buffet on an indian festival here is cool and awesome experience
Well I was pretty dissappointed yesterday 5-9-2010. Went with family and friends to celeberate the mothers...Food was average not outstanding as one would expect having a mother's day buffet and the price was simply ridiculous $16/- + tax per head??? Not to be going there again for any kind of festive buffet for sure.
The food was good, but not worth the HOUR long wait we had from being seated until it arrived. Even the bread we ordered did not come out for an hour. Extremely inattentive service, and they did not come to apologize or explain the delay. Also, after an hour, 2/3 of our party of 6's food came out, but we waited another 10 minutes for the other 2 meals. Unfriendly service, and the delay was inexcusable (particularly without any sort of explanation). To be fair, the food, tea and lassi were good. Also the waiter took a cell phone call one of the few times he came to our table.
