Lantern is our go to restaurant in Chapel Hill. The food is great and the staff makes you feel at home. The ingredients are for the most part local and are transformed into Asian delights. Not to be missed.

This a our home away from. The food is creative, especially the steamed dumplings and the whole fresh fish. The wine list show care in the selection and it is very generous in wines by the glass. The desserts whether the chocolate explosion or the panna cotta are wonderful. The resaturants heads the class in the Durham/Chapel Hill area.

Regarded as an innovative, high quality restaurant, but falls far short of its hype. Where was the fusion? Dishes were almost entirely the same as what is tried and true in asian cuisine, with some tinkering in ingredients. I applaud the restaurant for considering interesting ingredients (especially in cocktails), but the conception and, at times, execution was lacking.

Worst dining experience ever!! I couldn't even eat my dinner it was so horrible, we had to pay 65.00 per person for Valentine's Day on top of that. Poor service, staff doesn't care if you enjoy your meal or not, as an apology for not being able to eat my dinner i was given "rice pudding" for free! Needless to say, that didn't make it better! we were seated 1 ft from the crowded bar for our "romantic dinner." This was by far the most expensive meal we have ever had, we at least expected it to be good enough to eat. We left shocked, this place is overrated and overpriced! Unbelievable that it is still open!

Good food. Good service. Good decoration. Consistent after many times. Recommended. Within my top 5 in Chapel Hill. A little pricey.

A regular haunt for the last year: Lantern consistently performs well. The food is very good and the cocktails amazing!!! The wait staff have a reserved, minimalist approach much like the restaurant's decor but are always attentive and pleasant. The crowning glory is the wonderful, darkly lit bar at the rear. Snag a table there instead of the restaurant for a romantic evening. Love the place.

High quality and creative fusion Asian food. The decor is very cozy, trendy, and can be romantic. The service is excellent. It may be a bit pricey but good for a special occasion. The menu changes often, so I don't really have any recommendations, but I've been many times and have yet to be disappointed. Their drinks and cocktails are not bad either, there's even a small bar/lounge in the back.

This place is fabulous! The food is absolutely delicious from appetizers (salt & pepper shrimp, black mushroom & cabbage dumplings, spicy eggplant salad, summer rolls, the Bento Box) to entrees (tea spice smoked chicken, Bim bi Bop, the whole fried perfectly spiced flounder, the Japanese beef, pork tenderloin lettuce wraps) and desserts (hot chocolate cake with a smooth and creamy homemade ice cream, vanilla panna cotta with caramel sauce and espresso brittle, homemade strawberry ice cream with pistachio shortbread). I could go on and on. The Lantern is packed every night for a reason! Yes, it is pricey and understandably so. The ingredients are the freshest and come from local farmers...even the seafood is brought in daily. The wait staff executes service with panache and creates a pleasant dining experience. While there are several truly wonderful restaurants in our area, The Lantern should not be missed.

Hip Place, Good Food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/08
Lantern is a stylish restaurant with a sexy little bar in the back. The food is asian fusion, everything is delicious, and they pay great attention to detail. Expect to pay for it, with a typical entree running at least $15.
