The Carolina Inn

Description

Founded in 1924, the Carolina Inn contains much of the charm of a historical southern hotel. Modeled after George Washington's Mount Vernon, you'll want to take your time to absorb the chandeliers, luxurious furnishings and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows of the lobby. Warm color schemes, large windows framed with flowing drapes and charming furniture make the guest rooms equally inviting. At the CrossRoads Bar, enjoy a cocktail in a lounge reminiscent of an estate parlor, appointed with generous leather chairs and adorned with antiques. Stroll over to the on-site Carolina CrossRoads Restaurant for an unforgettable meal.

I have only dined here one time. They do not treat the wait staff in a fair manner making them work double shifts and very hard conditions. I know that they hire illegal workers that are afriad to say anything about the hours. UNC should do better than that. People should not be treated that way no matter what.

Overcharging at Friday on the Front Porch???
By Isaac, 6/24/09
Recently, after having heard about "Friday on the Front Porch" at the Carolina Inn, I stopped by to check it out. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was a little strange. I'm not sure if it was that everyone was trying to hard to fit into some southern cliche, or if it was the overcrowding, or if it was all the pretensiousness, or if it was the sad fact that the "too cool" bar tenders overcharged my tab! (not cool guys, very not cool). It really speaks to poor management/hiring practices when you find barkeeps like that. Needless to say I will not be going back, and I will discourage any of my friends to stop by either. Additionally, when I was interviewing for graduate school at UNC, I stayed at the hotel. It was nice, but a little overpriced - your not paying for accomodation, your paying for location I suppose. To sum it up... staff is pretty immature and unprofessional, but the hotel is "relatively" nice.

Southern hospitality great food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
Wonderful place to stay on campus at UNC Chapel Hill. Convenient to Franklin Street (the campus' main drag) and its lively restaurants, clubs, etc. Four star restaurant on the premises with great southern inspired food with a twist. Rooms are nicely decorated and service is excellent.

Okay stay, but hard to communicate with the staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/07
The rooms and the service are much to be desired, but the location is good as long as you do not need to drive anywhere during your stay. The meeting we attended was well put together, but it was hard to find someone who spoke English during our breaks and meals. In a four star hotel I expect the staff to be able to speak English.

We were very impressed!
By MelissaS, 11/12/06
My husband and I chose the Carolina Inn as the site for our wedding and reception back in 2002. We were impressed from the minute we first walked into the hotel and walked away with wonderful memories of the entire event. It was better than we had planned for or expected, really every detail worked out great. The guests who stayed there all raved about their rooms and we too enjoyed our room and the special basket of goodies the hotel provided for us. It's a beautiful place!

Absolutely Delightful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/06
While the location is excellent for those visiting the university it is also just one of my very favorite hotels. We travel just to stay there. Staff is very accomodating , food is superb. They treat Hilton Honors Dimond members especially nice!
