On 10/19/2013 My wife and I visited this location for a nice evening out, as we have on occasions before. We were seated and waited for our drink order to be taken, another table was sat next to us after we had been waiting and they must have been friends of our server as our server ignored us in order to stand and talk to her friends, Finally after atleast 10 minutes or order was taken. I ordered a beer, my wife a soft drink, and we ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. The server took forever to get our drinks out to the table, then even longer before the appetizer came out. When the appetizer arrived it was obvious that it had been sitting under a heat lamp for some time, the appetizer was bacon cheese fries and the cheese had become tough and chewy, and the fries were cold and tough, the appetizer also came with green onions on it which are not listed in the menu. We also received our entrees about 2 minutes after the appetizer, and again it was obvious they had sat under a heat lamp for quite some time. I ordered a French Dip and the top bread was hard as a rock while the meat was cold, and the cheese was very tough and cold, my wife ordered pasta with chicken, the chicken was very tough, dried out, and cold. I also ordered a second beer at this point, and after waiting about 10 minutes it was delivered to me warm because the server was too busy socializing to bring it from the bar. Finally it came time for the check and when it arrived I noticed a discrepancy in the total as there were multiple banners hung throughout the restaurant reading Miller Lite Pints, 1.99 However I was charged 3.00 each. When I asked the server about this she said she would find out, and came back and very rudely told me that the special was only for Monday nights even though the sign has no indication that the special is for a specific day. During the entire visit to the restaurant there was absolutely no management presence at all that could be seen. I dont plan on returning to this establishment again, and I recommend that if you are looking for an enjoyable evening, that you stay away as well
Let me start by saying that have been going to McKinley s for the past 11 years (as long as I have lived in Clayton). During the 11 years this has been the place that I would bring family, friends and co-workers for food and entertainment . As a Steeler fan I have also spent countless Sunday afternoons enjoying football and having many conversations with Eric (the owner as I unserstand). Based on all of this, I would consider myself a good customer. However, after my experience today, I will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. After my wife dropped me off at KcKinley s to watch football today, she was going to Lowes Foods and was undecided as to whether or not she was going to join me at McKinleys after shopping. I went to the bar in McKinley s and the game I was wanting to watch was not on one of the bar TV s. I went to a table to be able to see the game. Shortly after I sat down an unknown person with a Steeler shirt came over to me. He asked me if he could sit with me because he did not want to take up a whole table by himself. I let him know that my wife might be joining me but I would know in about 5 minutes. I let him know if she was not going to be joining me I would be happy for him to join me. This was the last that I heard from him and I did notice that he ended up sitting at the bar. The rest of the game was good. I ate some wings and drank some beer. Toward the middle of the 4th quarter (after the game was decided), I decided to go to the bar and stay for another hour. After I closed out my bill at the table I went to the bar and order a beer from the 4 O clock bartender (the Giants fan). No more then 2 minutes later the blonde ( I think this is Eric;s girfriend) just started attacking me for taking up a table all afternoon. At first I though it was just a casual conversation because I have had many with her, but the more she talked the more I understood she was attacking me. She was cussing me out!!! Then I thought it must be a joke...but nop, she was definitely serious!!! I tried to explain about my wife being undecided if she was coming or not and saying that I was happy to let that person sit with me. I have no idea what her problem with me is. After I understood what she was saying to me I stood up and told her she just lost an 11 year customer and walked out. I just want to say that in my 43 years I have never felt compelled to write a review about a place because everyone has their bad days and people just have their own opinions about things. But let me say I have NEVER been treated like this before by any business that I have gone to before. Stay away!
My husband and I frequently go to Mck s and we really have never had a bad meal. I will say that the menu needs to be re vamped. Its been the same for the 5 years I have been going there and its getting old. I also really find it sad that after scores of bad reviews concerning staff, nothing has been changed. Its a shame this place cant be better. Its so conveniently located and it could do so well...
McKinley's IS a bar though...
I mean yeah, you can get some food but you are not getting like a full-scale restaurant service. IT's food for people when they are drunk! It's mainly a bar, people go there to hear bands, play pool and drink beer. So give them a break.
As a side note I would like to mention that I haven't been to McKinley's in probably 2 years so I don't know if the company changed hands or if new management was hired or what.
Was very much looking forward to spending a nice St Paddy's Day dinner at this local Irish Restaurant. Imagine my surprise when I was told that it was a $5 cover charge. My family and I promptly left. We were told it was to help pay for the band. If I wanted to pay a cover charge to hear a band, I would've went to a bar. Never again will I go there. They've lost my business. If you go to a Mexican Restaurant for Cinco De Mayo, they don't charge any cover.
I wouldn t waste your money going there for St. Pattys Day. Atleast not if you just want some corned beef and cabbage. They charge an outrageous cover charge even if you only want to eat dinner and could care less about the bands. Their corned beef is pitiful as well. Looks like something they got sliced from the deli counter. A good corned beef dinner should have nice thick slices of corned beef cut against the grain so its fall apart tender. Carrying Guinness Beer and making a bad Shepherds Pie does not an Irish bar make!
