Sweet Potatoes
By Gvito, 4/14/13
A fantastic dinner experience starting with a very friendly welcome after a reasonable wait time (it was busy last night) and the fun started with a very friendly and knowledgeable waitress... She was great. The FOOD WAS EXCELLENT at a reasonable pice. We drove an hour and would do it again.

Sweet Potatoes

I liked the fact that while walking up to the front door, the host saw us coming and opened the door. That gave a great first impression. The food was very good. The sweet potato bread pudding, for dessert, was EXCELLENT. Very cozy and nice ambiance. Wait staff a tad unrefined, but polite. Waiter almost broke wine bottle by jerking, squeezing cork out and described how he actually broke a bottle the week before...but DEFINITELY a place worth visiting in WS.

I don't understand what all the hype is about. My wife and I recently visited with some friends and we were shocked at how we were treated. The shocking part was that it was not the wait staff but the owner herself. We were ignored repeatedly by Vivian J, as she made it a point to introduce herself to every table in our vicinity. That would not have been so disturbing if it were not for the fact that I asked her outside and spoke to her about the incident. Vivian claimed she was unaware of the fact but with the repeated eye contact she made with every member of my party, I would put up the house and bet the odds, that she was not only aware but it was deliberate. Vivan then came to the table and made the most insincere apology I have heard in my entire life, and I am a father of four. The food was tasty at best, the ambiance was slightly jazzy, and the portions just big enough for a very hungry toddler. Please do not believe the hype, spend your money at a restaurant deserving.

Yesterday two young black couples visited and another standing at the door. The single couple at the door had been waiting for 30min before the two younger couple to be seated. One right after another people were seated including my party before the couple at the door.Don t know how they feel about that, but our experience was less than perfect. Hear me out the food was great we all agree the wait staff was great, but here s the kicker we were sitting in a position were there were four tables around us the co-owner VIVIAN J. visited every table and greeted them now she went to each table 2-3 times mind you she had to pass by my table to get to three tables in front of me coming from the table behind me.This went on for maybe 40 mins. Now i m not saying this have anything to do with how we were treated but we are late 20 s early 30 s black there are no reasons for me to go back!!!

The server was snotty and acted irritated even though we were one of 3 occupied tables. The food was even worse! Each person got something different and all 4 of us were disappointed. My burger tasted like they just unthawed it and served it cold! Do NOT recommend!

We drove from Greensboro to Winston-Salem to try out Sweet Potatoes and had a great time. The service was excellent and, for the price, there was almost too much food. We'll be back.

As a hometown girl, this is my favorite spot for either lunch or dinner....even a late dinner after enjoying an evening downtown....great food, atmosphere make this one of the most popular places in Winston. I always bring someone different each time I come. LOVE IT.

SOULFOOD wit a swanky twist!
By Nore, 8/6/07
I had the pleasure of dining here this weekend. One of many times visting and I have never been disappointed. This time I had the VVs meatloaf with tobacco onions, mashed potatoes, and sauteed corn, okra and tomatoes. Topped it off with a slice of Sweet potatoe cheescake. YUM! The meal is worth every dime. If you are looking for a bargain I would suggest stopping by at lunch. If you looking for an intimate setting for a romantic evening this is the place. ENJOY! I did.
