Quality, value and price. Large portions, fresh salads, easy atmosphere.

So delicious. Fresh pasta ... fresh salad ... and bread right out of the oven drizzled with some kind of magic-delicious garlic oil. Meatballs on the pasta were very good. Server was nice and helpful. We left satisfied and happy and will go back soon.

Since the Rose in Westover closed, this is THE place that's left for good pasta, and Pugs has great pizza, sandwiches and home made soups to boot. I used to be a regular when I lived in Morgantown, and hadn't been there in years until recently. I have been in Morgantown a lot recently due to work, and it was nice to see that Pugs hasn't changed much. From the moment they bring you that wonderful homemade bread with your drinks until you get that steaming bowl of fresh pasta, Pugs just exemplifies quality. It still has a nice, cozy and comfortable atmosphere. But over all of that, the food is excellent. Contrary to another reviewer, the prices in my opinion are cheap. Fresh pasta with shrimp and scallops for $15?! That's cheaper than a lot of ocean front resort area places, in Morgantown! That said, compare the average pasta dish with meat or seafood price of $13 to $14 with any other restaurant of it's class in the area, Back Bay or any of the franchise hell places, and Pugs is probably cheaper, and likely much better. Pugs is a somewhat unknown gem in a sea of Morgantown sprawl. I am somewhat biased, as I just generally avoid the franchise places and prefer the locally owned type joints. With places in Morgantown like Pugs, Tiberios II, Madelines, Ali Baba, Maxwells, Keglers, etc., you can find any type of high quality food you want without resorting to the chain restaurants. Think globally, act locally. Eat at Pugs!!! :) I highly recommend trying the soups as well, they will substitute soup for your salad if you like. If you get the salad, the pine nut dressing is recommended as well..

When you open the door, the smell overwhelms you. It only gets better from there. Homemade salad dressing - my favorite is the tomato basil- amazing food that melts in your mouth. If you love Italian, this is the real stuff. Make sure you order the loaf. It's a square loaf of break with butter and garlic. FANTASTIC.

There has to be a nonna in the kitchen. The food is out of this world. I agree with the other review, we want to keep the little gem to ourselves!

Morgantown's Secret: I am hesitant to recommend Pug's because we would like to keep the place to ourselves. It is an intimate place that reminds one of the best Italian places in Brooklyn or Philadelphia. It has its steady loyal customers and I would not like to see it overrun. We are Pittsburgh residents with Morgantown connections and Pug's is always on our agenda when we visit. As other's have said, Pug's has the best pasta anywhere. The wine selection, pizza, and salads are great as well.

certainly a hole in the wall, but

it may just be the finest italian food in town. Somewhat pricey, but at least you feel as if you're getting something for your money. I get the impression that if they don't make the pasta there themselves, at least it's fresh pasta picked up from somewhere. It's certainly not your typical out of the box pasta. It's hard to beat their calzones. They're huge and delicious. The salad dressing must be the tomato basil. Don't let them offer you anything else until you try it. It's perfect for a salad. Simply perfect. Wine selection isn't the greatest, but you really can't ask for more. Afterall, wine is only as pleasing as the mouth believes it to be. For Morgantown, it deserves 4 stars. It's good, clean, and consistent.

pasta and garlic bread and cheesecake...oh my!
By amy, 8/6/06
Puglioni's is one of the original Italian restaurants in Morgantown. The garlicy bread there is delicious...and for future reference, I ALWAYS get the ends. I'll fight you for them - they're that good. Everything is good...except the pesto pasta, and that's just because I don't like pesto.

Gotta love this place!
By Heather J, 7/5/06
Pug's has possibly the best pasta anywhere! You get more than your money's worth and my husband and I always leave with a take home box! And their garlic bread - to DIE for! Just oozing with buttery garlic. Freshly baked so you aren't eating something tasting like cardboard. The service is always wonderful too. The waitresses come back to the table frequently and are happy to serve you. My husband even occasionally orders something no longer on the menu - and as long as the chef working that night remembers how to make it - they are more than happy to do it for him! Even with Olive Garden now in town I can truly say it would be almost impossible for me to pick them over Pug's if I had to!
