Worst place I've ever worked! The management is very unfair and disrespectful to the employees, thus the customers get the brunt of servers who are mistreated and upset. I will not work in such a disrespectful place.
Last Fall we went there 2 times (2005). The first time was just the 2 of us the next time with a group of 8. Service was pleasant, most food was avarage and some was real good in both instances. It is not fancy or prentious- just good home cooked food and pleasant folks.
For the money - it was well worth it and we are going back there this fall!
Rowes might be in the Virginia mag as one of the best restaurants around but I think that who ever wrote it was or had been drinking. I went to Rowes yesterday morning the service was bad the waitress was VERY RUDE and the food was ok I've had better. Its going to be a long time before I go back
Too many people driving along the interstate are duped by the fact that it was once mentioned in a well known southern magazine. They are resting on undeserved laurels. The food is average at best. Definitely would not go there again.
A nice family restaurant. I have visited 3x - 2 dinners/1 breakfast. Breakfast was good, nothing fancy, just good. I went in search of great fried chicken, many claim Rowe's to be very good. First visit, I was too early for fried chicken, by 1/2 hour, so you must eat after 5pm or so to get the fried chicken. The 2nd visit I ordered the chicken - supposed to be pan fried, with a warning that the meal will take about 20 minutes or more to prepare. My chicken arrived in 5 minutes, did not look pan fried and tasted like it was sitting around for some time, so this chicken was not something to write home about. Maybe I will try it again, but life is too short to give another chance when there are so many chicken fryers out there and the more fired chicken you eat the shorter life may be. The restaurant is also a bakery and their pies are very good. I have had the egg custard and lemon meringue - both delicious and recommended.
