We made reservations for 13 (several of us had traveled over 300 miles that day) and were told that we would be seated on the first level since we had 3 seniors using canes. When we arrived we were told by a VERY NASTY woman, that there was no available seating for 13 except what they put together for us on the second floor. After a bit of arguing (with no apology for the mix up from mgmt) we headed upstairs with our party. Our server was extremely pleasant and did everything he could to satisfy. He had a rib injury and none of his co-workers would assist him to carry our orders upstairs which we all thought was rude. 12 of our meals were luke warm at best. Two orders had to be sent back because they were completely cold. Two others were served completely wrong steaks and cooked wrong. Even though it wasn't the best experience, the food was tasty (especially the stuffed squash), the atmosphere is beautiful, however, management needs to take some classes on proper customer service. VERY VERY RUDE!!!
TERRIBLE SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT TO SAY THE LEAST!!!! My husband and I went to this establishment for a late anniversary dinner. We have been there several times but this visit was VERY BAD!!! When we arrived there was no bread brought to the table, the server told my husband they were out of a certain wine that he had ordered. The server later brought him a glass and stated that she did not know a shipment had came in. Later we found out that our server had an family emergency and how to leave, but NOBODY bothered to tell us this directly we heard another server telling one of the other tables that she was taking over. Our food was finally brought to us and the potatos were cold and the steak was burnt to a crisp. When someone finally brought us our check my husband voiced his concern about how we were abandoned because nobody seemed to care we were just left. The management is very rude not to mention the person who brought us our check. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTURANT DUE TO THE RUDE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. As for the manager, I hope that you read these reviews because it would appear that service is a BIG issue.
The food was very good, but we had to wait nearly 2 hours for it, and I'm not exaggerating. The service was horrible! They acted like they were doing us a favor by serving us. We wanted to get up and leave but it was late in the evening, we were tired from traveling all day and the place had been highly recommended by our hotel for the food quality, so we waited it out. It is such a charming building - atmosphere, but my husband will never go back due to the service. Too bad.
This could be a nice place, but it is just awful!. The service is worse than a truck stop, the management is rude and the food is no better. Also, we made it a point to check our tab...20 dollars too much...glad I checked. Thieves. I don't know how they stay in business. I guess a whole lot of out of towner's just happen in for a one time helping of slop before heading up the interstate. If you are the owner, do yourself a favor and start over.......
Underwhelming at best. I'm a resident of Wytheville and have eaten at the Log House on several ocassions. Each time I've eaten there, the service has been mediocre. Plus, I get the feeling that they don't care about their customers. And yet, ever the optimist, I eventually go back, hoping that the next time it will be better. (It never is. At least it's predictable, though!)
The women who is the manager(?) owner(?) is exceptionally rude, once lecturing my wife on God and Satan because my wife's complained about a burnt-beyond-edible filet mignon. (For the record, she ordered it medium, it came rare and was sent back, only to be returned burned (through spite?)
Last year at Christmas, they padded not just our bar tab (by doubling it!) but the bar tabs of the other three couples we were dining with.
Quality of food? It's defininitely tasty, but would certainly taste much better if it was hot instead of lukewarm (at best) or romm temperature (at worst.) On the other hand, perhaps it comes out of the kitchen hot, but the inattentive staff doesn't deliver it until it's cooled. My opinion: Save your money and go a few mile further down the road to Galax. Eat at Bogey's. The food's better, the service is better, and the staff is friendly.
Since I am kinda of a starving teacher, I opted for some appetizers and a glass of Red Zinfandel. The service was fair, not great. One person eating two appetizers and a glass of wine don’t usually leave huge tips. So if service is connected to the probable tip, then the service was fair but not great. I had better service at Friendly’s. To the credit of the recommenders I was warned about bad service. So I kinda expected it.
I picked two appetizers off the menu that I thought of as southern fare, and wanted to try them. Peanut soup which came cold in a cup. I think it was supposed to be warm in a cup, but I think maybe it was left to age by the cooks table for a while. It arrived luke warm. I ate it with the complimentary bread and butter. Dipping each hunk of bread into the soup and back out again. The soup needed salt to actually taste the peanut of the peanut soup.
Then my corn fritters came with a side of honey. They were a surprise indeed. I had never had corn fritters in the shape of a hushpuppy. Nothing to report there at all, except that they were indeed made of corn because I could see a kernel now and again in the round cooked batter.
I think that I need to go back again and order an actual meal and see how it tastes before I have a better opinion of the place, or render some kind of judgment about it either way.
The atmosphere is charming and requires better inspection in the future, and no doubt since I will be living in the town I will have ample opportunities to do so.
