Best food, great service. A little pricey, but it is worth the cost. The chocolate martini was a revelation!

Because we had such high expectations, we were left disappointed in Frankie Rowlands. Based on their reputation for superior steaks and service, we expected to be wowed. Instead, we had an unusually long wait time, our food went to the wrong table, and I was served a mediocre steak that I had the pleasure of paying $33 for and then took home to the dog. Apologies and explanations regarding the long wait from our waitress kept us agreeable for awhile. However, we were seated at 8:00PM and received our entrees at 9:30PM. In between ordering and finally receiving the steak and lamb chops, we enjoyed a perfectly delicious appetizer of baked brie en croute. I was hoping the best part of the meal would be my ribeye steak, not the appetizer and bread. The lamb chops my boyfriend ordered were tender and very good. My steak was cooked perfectly, but was full of gristle and I couldn't eat most of it. We were told there are less expensive places in Roanoke to have a fine meal, but we decided to splurge on Frankie Rowland's because of their reputation for service and steaks. I wish we'd taken the advice of other's and gone to one of the other fine establishments in downtown Roanoke. The worse part- an email to the resaurant airing our concerns was left unanswered.

Frankie Rowlands probably has the best steak in Roanoke; they have an extensive wine list and excellent deserts. The service is some of the best to be found in Roanoke. The venue is small and laid out like an older historic restaurant you might find in a larger city like NY in one of the “districts” or downtown Philly where space is at a premium. The seating is very close together with a long bench along one wall that is shared among many tables. On a quiet night the restaurant has an exceptional ambiance. If you find yourself there on a night with a boisterous group (as I did recently) you'll come away with a much less than perfect dining experience. It is a bit pricey for Roanoke; expect your drinks, meal and desert to come in at a total of about $100/pp.

My wife and I came here for our 1st anniversary, and had a fabulous time. The crab dip was outstanding. My wife really enjoyed her pineapple martini. I had the 14oz filet, and I can't remember having a better steak. Overall, the environment, service, and overall quality of food here is exceptional. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area.

This is the mother of all steak restaurants. I have eaten at dozens of high-end steakhouses all over the country, and I would put Frankie's fare up against anybody's, anywhere, anytime. How's that for a recommendation? Frankie's is a high-end steak house with the quality and prices living up to that moniker. All selections are ala carte, as is typical in such an establishment. I enjoyed a business dinner here last night and managed to put away a perfectly prepared medium rare KC Strip (bone-in, delicious, fine cut) with peppercorn sauce and my share of an asparagus side. This after sharing three wonderful appetizers about our table of six (try the scallops, they are out of this world) and splitting with a coworker the beefsteak tomato with blue cheese and balsamic vinagrette dressing sitting atop some fresh spinach (the salads are huge, and Frankie's is more than happy to split them for you). As always the service was superb, with the perfect mix of attentiveness and "leave us alone". They offer a superb wine list with an ample selection of fine wines available by the glass (generally $8 to $10 per glass). Oh, and when you visit, try the pineapple martini - it is their signature cocktail and certain to get your night off to a wonderful start!

Best Steaks anywhere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/16/07
Frankie Rowland is a great restaurant to celebrate that extra special occasion. The steaks and side dishes are superb. The cuts of steak is the best I have had anywhere. They are thick and cooked perfectly. Please don't order anything well done. It will ruin that perfect steak! The service is incredible. You will feel pampered. One of my friends had on black pants and the waitress gave him a black napkin instead of the white napkin so he wouldn't get white lint on his pants! The famed pineapple martini are fabulous as well. The prices are very expensive here. I usually dine with someone and we order the biggest steak on the menu and we split the steak to save some $. The waitstaff don't seemed to be offended by my penny pinching ways at all. Be aware that side items are a la carte - (pay for each one). I like the lettuce wedge and tomato salad with the blue cheese dressing. I consider this item a meal by itself. The oyster rockefeller is wonderful here too. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Save up and enjoy a dining experience that is Frankie Rowlands.

Expensive but you get what you pay for!!!!
I have beed to Frankie's numerous times and have heard great things about the place they call Chris Ruths and let me tell you I have been there three times once in DC, Las Vegas and Greensboro and I was so disappointed. Frankie Rowlands A+ in my book. Eat at the bar its great.

Better than Ruth's Chris
By David, 5/4/05
I just dined at a Ruth's Chris tonight for the first time. I had their 12oz filet. I was expecting the earth to move. Want to know the truth? It didn't hold a candle to Frankie Rowland's. Right here in little old Roanoke--the best steak I've ever had in my life.
