I had a most wonderful lunch today. The waitress was amazingly good and the food was good. I ordered the Seafood combination ..WOW I even got two sides with it. I chose corn on the cob and a house salad. My $9.99 lunch entree arrived hot and delicious.. five perfectly broiled shrimp, 2 small crab cakes that were loaded with real crab...YUM! some scallops and piece of broiled fish. With this lunch platter I was served cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, perfect sweet tea and homemade rolls..WOW! Our appetizer was an order of fresh fried oysters. I found our waitstaff friendly, attentive and sweet. I recommend this place to all. I will def be back. I have lived in downtown since 2000 and never tried this place until today..because I do not like to dress up...well. I wore jeans and a t-shirt..and felt comfortable..Please go try.some of the menu items were as low #$%$ 6.95 and were full course lunches...good service, great food and love the prices..
Excellent restaurant! We are from New England and are very picky about our seafood. Everything we have had there has been excellent! Hostess is not the friendliest, but our waitress was very good! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants.
We were on vacation at VA Beach and took a day to go into Portsmouth and Norfolk and it got to be lunchtime, so we saw this restaurant and decided the prices looked good and they had a good-looking menu. (the food DID end up being excellent... the warm crab dip is to DIE for!) The hostess was rather homely and frumpy and not at all overly-friendly, which was not a good impression...but then our waitress came out and we both noticed that she was very cold and short and had no personality. After we'd been there about 1/2 an hour we were wondering why a bowl of seafood pasta and a hamburger would take so darn long... about that time the 2 ladies next to us having lunch with their kids, called the waitress over and were complaining that they'd been there 30 minutes and had just got their appetizer and that 'this is the worst service we've ever had anywhere!' After that, the food showed up really quick and the waitress got an amazing attitude adjustment and things were fine. So, I was underwhelmed by the employees, but the food ROCKED!
I was surprised at how rude these restaurant people are to you on both the phone and when you are at the restaurant. I think the food was ok, but the personality and ugliness of the people that run it will keep me from returning.
Went here last night with a party of 5. Waitress was nice, although she was a little overextended. The crab dip was exceptional. The scallops were in a lovely sauce, but overcooked. The salad is just okay. Lots of iceberg...something you would see in a cafeteria, not a nice restaurant. The entrées were pretty terrible. I got fettuccine with scallops, shrimp and lobster in a cream sauce. The noodles were wet with not much sauce, and it seemed like they just poured the crab dip over the noodles. I was definitely disappointed. Won't be coming back here. I am sure it is a good deal when you get the $7.99 early bird special. Other than that, I do not recommend.
Although I am a resident of Portsmouth, last week was my first time
eating at Lobscouser. I was with a party of 10 and believe it not there were no complaints about the food, everything a
was very good. I had the garden salad with roasted chicken and the veggies were really fresh. The prices are very reasonable. One complaint though, our orders were taken in a timely manner, but it took too long to get our food and the check!
I was not impressed with the food. My husband and I were looking for a nice place to eat and Lobscouser appeared to be really nice. The calamari was good but as for the rest of dinner, not so great. It was really bland, not enough flavor for me. I definitely have had better seafood. My husband had the fried shrimp and had to put so much lemon juice on it just to make it edible.
