I have been to this ballpark numerous times and PNC Park never fails to impress. The last trip was a 2 day event on a 4 day baseball trip (Cleveland & Baltimore being the other 2 cities).
For those two games we got to see Zach Greinke pitch for the Royals and Rich Harden pitch the next night for the Cubs. As for the Pirates pitchers I can't even recall since the players seem to always come and go, so it's hard to remember. I do recall that the Cubs game was Niger Morgan's last as a Pirate.
Our seats were amazing, for $27.00 we got seats about 20 rows up behind home plate. We sat in pretty much the same spot for both games. Seeing two premier pitchers pitching from such prime seats was fantastic and I have the pictures to prove it!
From being to this park many times I do know that there is not a bad seat in the house. Sightlines are fantastic.
As for things to do in between the games, there are many great restaurants and bars close to the ballpark and hotels are within walking distance.
One bar/restaurant I would highly recommend belongs to former Pittsburgh Steelers Jerome Bettis called Grille 36. Very nice, 36 great beers on tap and great food. It even has two way glass in the bathroom where you can look into the bar as you're standing at the urinal! Very cool!
I just can't say enough good things about this park. The skyline, the views of the field, the atmosphere, the friendly people, the food, the access, etc.
Unfortunately, we still have "the Pirates". Well, that's another story in itself.
As for "Watch out for those Pirates fans By mccomas6, 10/03/06", that is quite funny. I went to a Steelers bengals game and the 3 bengals fans (guys) behind me (I was sitting by myself) actually wanted to fight me because I was talking to a couple of bengals fans (females) that were right beside them. And, no, they weren't even together.
So, hypocrit, you might want to concern yourself with you "fans" first!
Every seat is a good 1. I am not a fan of the Pirates and most of the time they lose. BUt the fans are nice and the food is good. We paid $5 for tickets and walked around the park the whole game it was a blast.
Now, THIS is the place to see a game. Every seat, every vantage point is a good one. There are no "dog" seats here. Even the seats in the "nosebleed" section get treated to a spectacular view of the Pittsburgh skyline.
I've been to dozens of ballparks, and this one wins for aesthetics. The view of downtown from seats behind home plate is surreal. This Pirates themselves are nothing special, but I come in once a year to see my team come in and play. Prices are no better than any other ballpark, but the food is better than most.
The stadium is top notch. There is not a bad seat in the house. The concession stand prices were reasonable, but watch out for those Pirates fans. We visited PNC Park for the second to last game of the season (Pirates vs. Reds) We, being from Cincinnati, wore our Reds gear and expected to be heckled so we were fine with that. In the 8th inning, we moved around and found another seat (really just to get a different view) It was raining and cold and the stadium was not packed by any means. We sat down and a couple excused themselves and sat next to us. After 1/2 an inning, the Pirates come up to bat and Jason Bay pops one foul about 7 rows behind where we were seated. The ball is bobbled around and eventually rolls under the seats and hits my husband in the back of the foot so he picks it up. The jerk next to us starts screaming at the usher that we should be kicked out because we were in his seats! We voluntarily left, but I was completed infuriated by this guy's actions! Word to the wise - - watch out for those fans!
PNC Park has got to be one of the top two or three ballparks in either major league. There's a lot to do in the exiciting city of Pittsburg, the tickets are reasonable ($9.00), and the stadium is fabulous. Wow! To sit in there at night and look over at the yellow bridge and into the city skyline is great. We walked back to the car across the R. Clemente Bridge, and that was an event in itself. We were able to park all day in Pitt. for only $12.00, so that was a decent deal. And the Pirates, they're...uh, well, let's not go into that.
If you are in the Pittsburgh area, PNC Park is a must see. I go to see the Pirates several times a year, and it just makes it so much more enjoyable when you have such a great place to go and watch them. Besides the ballpark itself being so wonderful, the staff is really friendly, and there is a terrific view of the city!!
