Franz Kafka Museum
Centre de Cultura Contemporania in Barcelona (CCCB) brought this creative exhibit to life. Having penned The Trial, Metamorphosis, and The Castle, Franz Kafka (1883-1924) is the apostle of the literature of paranoia. While Kafka never specifies the exact setting within his stories, Prague's presence is powerful within many. The city made a lasting impression on the author himself. These ideas are highlighted in the museum's two sections, Existential Space and Imaginary Topography. Featuring first editions of Kafka's works, letters, drawings, manuscripts, and audio-visual pieces, this museum allows guests to explore Prague through the eyes of Kafka.
the 2 figures outside are peeing on a map of czech republic. They move and descibe in a peeing motion the letters of the alphabet. Does it have any deeper meaning???
I learnt alot about Kafka, was moved by his love letters, his 1st world war history, his early death from TB in 1924.
His writings pre-dated / predicted the surrealism of communism and were forbidden in this era. Post 1989 he seems to have been reclaimed by Prague.
His surreal take on authority, probably in an era when channels for humour were few makes me think of someone Ricky Gervais in the Office, adapted to a different era......
The Man behind 'The Trial"
This is a wonderful little museum giving this extraordinary man a fascinating and in many ways tragic life profile. I didn't know about the letter to his father which he never sent but bought the book to read later.
Who is the sculptor of the two figures outside and how do they relate to Kafka? Perhaps I missed a reference to them. I had just three days in Prague but it was magical and I will definitely be back. I found the people charming and helpful and the beauty of it all in the snow absolutely stunning.
Amazing presentation of documents and photos that give Kafka's life meaning and multimedia demonstrations that evoke the emotions that Kafka sought to create in readers. This is a truly outstanding venue that is a treasure for anyone who, as I was, read and was influenced by Kafka's works. It is also one of the outstanding attractions in Prague, which certainly does not lack for beauty and interest.

In Communist times this was the rather formal Museum of the National Security Police, which focused on uncovering enemies of
the socialist state. Now it is an extremely enlightening place to visit especially for those who can read the ...
