Cogans Pizza Norfolk
Thank you for taking time to get to know who we are. We are a business that is in love with our customers and want you to know all about us!!! Since Cogan's first opened , we have proudly served our customers great food in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Visit us in either our Suffolk or our Norfolk location. We're not just a place to grab lunch, come down and hangout late night has Cogan's brings you a full bar with great Daily Specials. Best pizza in Norfolk! Excellent selection of over 30 beers on tap including several seasonal brews. One of their uniquely topped pizzas is filling enough for two. Cogans has the ability to transition from a family friendly restaurant, to a great college bar with live music in the evenings! So come in, and enjoy some of our many different styles of pizza, delicious meals and desserts. You won't be disappointed!
I have been a customer of Cogan's for about 8 years now and I will not be returning there ever again. Of the worst three dining experiences I have had in Norfolk all three of them have been at Cogan's. The service is lousy at best, the food is not much better and the tap beers always taste like dish water. I always give in and try and give Cogan's that one more chance but never again. Cogan's is a waste of time and money.
Cogan's is absolutely the best pizza joint in the area!!! We go there for their awesome Margarita pizza and of course the wide selection of beer on tap. Never had a bad experience there although sometimes there is a wait for the food due to being extremely busy, but we have always been compensated for waiting be it a few free drinks or free appetizer. Very nice place to go hangout with friends and kick back on the patio when the weather is nice!!!
It's shocking to me how poorly (or rarely) rated this place has been the last few years. It's slammed ALL THE TIME, where are the reviews from the people that eat/drink there 4 times a week? I love it because there's something for everyone, unlike the Taphouse or Bier Garden in Portsmouth (completely uninviting to anyone outside the circle of beer snobs). There are 33 drafts (from PBR to Bud Lite to Dogfish Head to Belgian Tripels), 50 more bottles, cute waitresses, and they have the best pizza within 100 miles. They have a patio, which is amazing on warmer nights, decent music over the speakers, and a funky nostalgic decor. I'm writing this because there needs to be a good review here at the top, so people new to the area don't hang a sweet hangout's rep on a few bitter nails. I'll see you at $2 pint night (Tuesdays).
Best Pizza I have ever tasted. It's great. I'm a world traveller and can say that this place rocks. They have a great selection of beer but never seem to have Hoegarden beer from Belgium. It's that good. LOL. Great crust makes it for me. The dip and salads are also good.
DO NOT eat at Cogan's. As I was sitting at the bar, I witnessed a large roach land on a pizza before the pizza was sent out, and watched a cook kill a roach with his bare hands and immediatly make a pizza without washing his hands. If you see a cook with spiked mohawk, turn around immediatly. I will be in contact with the health department. The service is lousy. I waited for over an hour and a half for my pizza. I am very disappointed with Cogan's and will not recommend the resturant to anyone.
Order for carry-out was complicated by order-taker at front who could not seem to operate a computer to get it started. If you are going to hire high-school bimbos to take orders, perhaps they should just have to write it down on a piece of paper and not have to know computer programming.
Pizza took an unreasonably long time, appeared to have been 'messed with' in the center, and had a coating of black stuff on the underside.
This is some of the best pizza I have ever had; I have eaten deep dish pizza from chcago and new york style pizza in new york and this is the best of both worlds here. Love the Goat Cheese artichoke pizza. Cool cooks also. What ever happened to that tip jar for the chefs? Hats off to the chefs there.
I've been there with the fam, and we love it. I wouldn't say it's a family oriented place, but thats what I like it. Don't listen to the family man thats hatin. Its open late, I stop there, get a pint, and a pie to go. Great spot and great food. Big ups
I have eaten in so many pizza parlors all over the United States, that I know a thing or three about the stuff. I can live off the stuff. So how did Cogan's compare to the standard. I usually rate it in the following categories: Taste, Originality, Crust, New Yorkness. So first, Taste. They have a lot of different combinations of pizzas and if your are willing to get the right type, you will probably be happy with the toppings. I recommend the Artichoke Hearts, they add a nice touch to it. I give them a 3 out of five though in all around taste, good but needs improvement. I blame it on the cheese and the lack of pesty sauce. The next thing is Originality. Pizza was made to be created original. Even though my favorite is still plain cheese, I can go for something original and that gives a new twist. I give Cogan's a four on originality, just because I have seen places that have way stranger things than they do. Very balanced menu though. Crust, this is the one that I am the hardest on. If you don't have a good crust, you might as well pack up shop. Their crust is a mix between a New York and something that you would find in a breadshop. It is a little thick for my liking and doesn't crackle when you bite into it. Is this important, yes, if you want the best. So for the crust I give them a three. Keep trying guys. Last is the New Yorkness. Since New York has the best pizza in the world, including Italy and Greece. I have to compare it to them. So I say a three, and that is the overall grade. It is decent, but there is a lot of room for improvement. If you do try them out and I say do, get the Greek Style. They work wonders with the Feta Cheese.
We went on a Thursday with my family. It was early, we arrived by 5:30 pm. Since we were the only ones in the restaurant, it seemed nice... at first. It took the waitress about 10 min. to get our drink order.. soda's and ice tea (shouldn't have been that difficult). We ordered ONE pizza. It took over 30 MIN. to get our food - with no one else in the place. Unbelievable!
The pizza was soooo salty and burned on the bottom, but by the time we finally got our food, we were all so hungry we ate it anyway.... or what we could stomach. We couldn't finish it. With our drinks now gone, our waitress disappeared for another 15 min. to get us refills. There was no way we could eat any more salty, burned pizza without something to wash it down.
Other people came into the restaurant after we did, and got their food quickly compared to how long we had to wait. It seemed to be run by teenagers with no adult supervisor or manager present. The attire of some of the wait staff was very inappropriate... mini-skirts, flip-flops, tube tops with no undergarments.
Over all it was one of the worst pizza's I've ever had with very slow service on top of it.
We won't be back.
