WHAT a disappointment. I won t go back - and I bypassed Starbucks to go here. Why?
My coffee was not good in my iced mocha, I was not offered whipped cream, and the board said $3.25 but I was charged $4.30 - when I asked the girl - she said that they are in the process of changing out their board.
Forget this place Go elsewhere.
As much as I love independent coffee stores, Fair Grounds, and coffee itself...I must say I've become disillusioned. Actual coffee and atmosphere are great but the espresso drinks often come out ill-prepared or bitter and burnt. Alas I save my most potent venom for the pastries. They are tasteless and stale. Being someone who enjoys a muffin or something for breakfast with coffee, ordering such a thing from Fair Grounds is a big no-no. And while I under no circumstance would ever wish for Fair Grounds to go away, I don’t think they can rest on the laurels of just being “not Starbucks”. Please step it up a notch so I can stop sulking into Starbucks or Panera hoping nobody will see me and so I can once again recoomend Fair Grounds to my republican friends who are afraid of any coffee without a mermaid on it.
Unique locally-owned gem in the heart of Ghent!! - Ok, so I admit to loving Starbuck's... But Fair Grounds is a totally different experience. Located on the upper floor of a converted older building, this is a great place to linger while sipping a tasty beverage, surfing the web, reading the paper or a book from the shelf. Comfortably hang out alone or enjoy the elbow room with a few friends. Music on weekends. Outdoor seating is available too. *(FYI, if you have time, be sure to check out the shop downstairs called Texture. A great place to browse artist-made wares). Thirsty? This is definitely worth a stop when you are in Ghent.
Exactly what i was looking for. I had been hoping to find a little hole in the wall place, unique from Starbucks and I found it. This place is on the 2nd story of a shop. There's a good variety of seating including multiple tables of varrying sizes, overstuffed chairs, and random wooden chars! The prices seemed comparable to any coffee shop (overpriced!) But they do have free wi-fi. It gets 5 starts from me, because nothing compares to it yet!
Fair grounds is a locally-own coffee place, that has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. You can read books and newspapers, surf the web wirelessly for free, while enjoying a Toffee Coffee (the equivalent of a frappucino, but better :-))
