I live in Newport News and eat at Plaza Azteca all the time. I order the Plaza del Mar very often. Had a family reunion in Virginia Beach, so I ordered my tried and true Plaza del Mar. It arrived so spicy I couldn t eat it, as well as the 2 other people at my table who ordered it since I d recommended it.. I explained to the waiter, who replied the peppers were especially hot this year, and that if I wanted something different, he d have to get the manager, which was fine with me. The manager had me explain my problem again, and tried to explain about the peppers again. I cut him short, and explained that I understood about the peppers, but the bottom line was we could not eat the exceptionally spicy food, and would like something different. I thought he was done, so I proceeded to hand him my plate, to which he evidently took great offense, and told me he wanted to finish explaining about the peppers ( I m not sure why he thought I didn t understand). I then asked him if he d like to finish the conversation away from my family, which we did. He then proceeded to tell me how rude I was and that my family was probably all ashamed of me because I was making a scene....which to be fair was untrue. I was keeping my voice down low to prevent this. I also explained that I d eaten that very dish at my local Plaza Azteca just the day before, and it was nowhere near that spicy, to which he replied his restaurant got different peppers than all of the other Plaza Aztecas. I apologized for making him feel offended and we went our separate ways. Bottom line, I ll never darken their doors again. Ronald the manager needs to be replaced.
