Piazza del Duomo, Pisa

Description

Standing in a large green expanse, Piazza del Duomo houses a group of monuments known the world over. These four masterpieces of medieval architecture – the cathedral, the baptistry, the campanile (the 'Leaning Tower') and the cemetery – had a great influence on monumental art in Italy from the 11th to the 14th century.

Gorgeous architecture
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/12
Whoever wrote the negative review for this place has no idea that these buildings were not created specifically for tourists. So you found them boring? Well they are places of worship, not carnivals. If you want to be constantly entertained, go to Gardaland. I found your other complaints to be especially arrogant. If you have been in Italy for even a few weeks you already know about Riposso and all the other quirks of Italian life. Get off your high horse and learn to enjoy things without expecting to be served on a silver platter. I have always wanted to visit Pisa, and though I was thrilled to finally see in person the famous tower I also got a pleasant surprise in the architecture of the other monuments. There is so much detail and high quality craftsmanship in these places that it's impossible to digest it all in a few hours. Even though admission is not free in all of the places, you get what you pay for and it's definitely worth it. Go sit inside the church and take in the grandeur; climb to the top of the leaning tower and marvel at the view. Pose for pictures in front of structures that are hundreds of years old. You won't be bored, and you won't regret it. Note: even though this place is "only" four hours from Aviano, I would highly recommend you stay the night. Traffic going back to Aviano in the evenings is murder and will cause 30-40 mins delay in some places.

Don't gooo!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/5/08
Wow, I can not believe these reviews! Are people joking? First of all, if you're a first time traveler, you're gonna pretty much love any place you go to b/c your expectations are somewhat lower than any seasoned traveler. I'm in the U.S Air Force and i've lived in Italy for 3 yrs and pisa is probably the worst vacation one could take from the U.S. Here are a few reasons why: the picture that you aways see of the leaning tower is pretty much ALL you're gonna get. There's nothing aound it but plain green fields. WooHooo! Restaurants are almost non existent, there are just a handful of shops and they're closed pretty much throughout the day bc of the siesta (3hr lunch break). Nightlife is non existent, the over priced food is not much to brag about and after you'll take a few good pictures you'll be left wondering around looking for something to do. So unless your idea of fun is walking around a small empty town with nothing to do, don't go. I recommend Paris, Spain, or Thailand for a great vacation.
