Must go to Delos!!!
Delos was the highlight of my trip. I'm glad I went to the Acropolis while in Athens because that is what everyone asks about and the photos that everyone wants to see from the trip. However, Delos was my personal favorite of the trip. I got to stand in Cleopatra's house, I mean WOW! It was a spur of the moment decision to go, we jumped on the boat at the last minute before it left the harbor and I think the cost of the trip was about 15 Euro each and another 5 to enter the island, well worth it. You are given a map when you arrive on the island and you have the opportunity to hire a private guide if you wish. We just kind of mingled in with some of the large pre-arraigned tour groups at the major sites to hear a the historical info but for the most part the island is easily self guided. The map lays out several different routs around the island and the time involved with each one. We opted for the 3 hour route I think. It involved a bit of hiking but for the most part was just a nice walk between the ruins. The 5 hour route involves a pretty intense looking hike up a hill/peak and where you would have a fantastic view of Delos and Mikonos in the distance but my flip flops wouldn't have made it..oh well maybe another trip. The battery in my camera ran out towards the end and I missed getting photos of the famous lion sculptures which are housed in the museum towards the end of the route, bummer. But all in all a really good day and a wonderful memory to take home with me.
