You are going to Love Accra

I went to Accra, cape coast, kumasi and tema. The people of Ghana are really nice. the weather is similar to florida in the summer time. The exchange rate from dollars to cedi is very favorable. In the summer of 2007 it was 10 cedi for one dollar. If you go to accra, you have to plan a trip to cape coast to see elmina castle!! What a powerful experience!!! FYI its traditionally rude to accept anything with your left hand. The left hand is viewed as unclean. It's ok to give a thumbs up, but never move your thumb down making a fist, its like our middle finger. I stayed at the Hotel Angelica in east legon. Its about a half mile from the University of ghana. The rates were good and the service was great. My room had really good ac. There was occasional power outages, but the hotel had a generator that would kick in. the africa cup will be starting in jan of 08. Don't get overwellmed in the market place, barganing is very common. there will be times when multiple people will be trying to get you to go to thier shop. the sales people are very agressive. they will try to grab your hand or pull you by the shirt so be prepared to stand your ground. Some people wanted to trade clothes, shoes, watches for whatever they are selling, so remember to be ready to bargin. If you are going to be vistitng an area were there is alot of children, bring pencils or paper as gifts. Give them out discretly because you may attract 20 to 30 kids that want one. It is commen for men to hold hands. this means that they are best friends not homosexual. If you are a female and go to a club, be prepared to have multiple men ask you to dance. try to go with a male that you are comfortable with incase it gets to be a little much for you. I had a great time in ghana, I hope you have a great time too!!
