This orchestra was officially established on March 9, 1950. Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yehudi Menuhin, Wilhelm Kempff, Claudio Arrau, Andre Previn, Daniel Barenboim, Luciano Pavarotti are some of the renowned artistes to have graced Icelandic Symphony. The performances include traditional classic sagas of Iceland, Shostakovich symphonies, and various other concerts. They tour extensively and are known as one of the best Nordic orchestras in the world.
